look man I doubt he did his speech as a way of sticking it to political correctness, he just did his speech and some people are mad about that

just finished watching this movie because of this thread..

one thing...the few people who told me about this movie clearly didnt see or read anything about it..they said it was about some gay lovers trying to get equal rights :dead: i wasnt trying to watch that so i avoided it altogether.

this movie was really good. Leto did a great job. if i didnt know him prior, i would think that he was really that tranny.

im also a Mcognahey(i know) hater, and he shut me the fukk up in that role. very good film.

Let's face it, the only way Leo will ever win an Oscar, is if he puts on a dress:yeshrug:

While I would have given the award to Jonah Hill (he was great in WWWS but also I thought he deserved it for Moneyball, but he was a neophyte at that point). Leto was incredible, I really don't know why people say that trannys win awards all the time, it's just simply not true. Come to think of it. It may be the most nuanced tranny I have seen on screen since Phillip-Seymour Hoffman in Flawless.

I watched this last night and at first I completely agreed with the OP. At the end, I was like "you didn't do anything for this entire movie." but as I let it digest I realized that it was a very subtle performance. I might have been expected something more over the top and that is why I was initially dismissive. I wouldn't call Leto's performance my favorite but it was actually pretty damn amazing. The part with his dad...wow. I really had to let the movie sink in first, though. I didn't see all of the movies but I liked Jonah.

Yeah, that scene was really great. I watched it twice, the first time, I was like why this nikka not crying?, but then I realized he has come to accept his disease and was probably preparing for it for a long time.

Jared did his thing, but I was really surprised that this nikka didn't get nominated, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0117709/?ref_=tt_cl_t2

He sounded and looked exactly like Nikki Lauda. I thought he did a really good job in Rush.

I'm actually just now starting to watch all of the nominees but I'll have to give this one a try. I still haven't even seen "12 Years a Slave" yet. It's hard for me to judge but I think I've seen maybe half of them so far. I think that this was a pretty good year for the category (however, I have only seen Wolf, Her, and DBC so far). Just looking at the trailer for "Rush", though...I think I just found out what I'm doing with my afternoon.
