I'm sorry but has there actually been a worse president than Trump?

Most presidents seemed to have spent their contemporary lives chasing perfection in their fields to get the top job.

Trump cheated and basically played people's worst instincts and won. IDK if we've seen that before.

I can't keep saying he's intentionally destructive other than he's that stupid. He might say something attacking some institution without realizing what that institution is supposed to serve.
No he is intentionally scaling back environmental regulations on a scale never seen before in a time where we need it the most. It's like needing a ventilator to survive and he gives you a pack of smoke and a red meat dinner instead

In modern history I dont think so? As bad as Bush was trump would have been 100xs worse in that time period we would have been in 3-4 wars.

Calvin Coolidge was pretty bad, but 45 is just awful.

5. COOLIDGE WAS POPULAR FOR DOING NOTHING.
In contrast to presidents who lent a heavy hand in American affairs, Coolidge captured the public’s favor by essentially doing nothing. He allowed businesses to prosper by minimizing government interference and satisfied voters who believed bureaucracy had become too overwhelming. But his conservative approach may have been a little too reserved. He's quoted as saying that he spent much of his presidency “avoiding the big problems.” Critics later argued his reluctance to stem the stock market speculation boom in the 1920s may have contributed to the market crash in 1929.

Trump is among the dumbest, but his people keep him away from important decisions. The rest is just normal republican shyt.

Bush was demonstrably more damaging, AND SMARTER ABOUT IT, way less of a white supremacist though.

I'd like to know on an environmental level, if there's been anyone more intentionally destructive. He's the biggest threat to humanity and the planet itself which is crazy to think about.

Like Jx2 says, he's probably the worst environmental president ever and at a pretty bad time for it too, a time when we actually could have made the switch to environmentally positive policies yet he does the exact opposite.

He's a horrible civil rights president, trying to roll back literally everything he can.

He's one of the worst deficit presidents ever, crazy increase of military spending at the same time he cut taxes for the rich.

He's fukked up health care for millions of people.

He's abused human rights for thousands of people including little kids coming through the border, with something like a dozen kids dying in his camps.

He's closed all federal investigations against police departments and openly encouraged them to brutalize subjects and abuse protesters

He's reduced business regulation in ways that threaten civil rights and give corporations more freedom to screw shyt up again

He's fukked up the responses to multiple natural disasters including really really screwing up Puerto Rico something terribly

Has given Russia a free reign to commit atrocities and interfere with US politics while likely sharing state secrets with their dictator

Acted stupidly with nations like North Korea and Iran in ways that ended with no benefit to the USA and could have triggered war

He's befriended some of the most violent, abusive dictators across the world and made clear the USA will absolutely not oppose even the most obvious atrocities

He's fed into extremely violent moves by both Saudi Arabia and Israel, including helping facilitate a Saudi war in Yemen that has killed hundreds of thousands of innocents

One of the biggest accelerators for White Supremacist feeling in our lifetimes, openly stirring up hate and encourage like-minded racists

He's turned 40% of the American public against journalism and fact-checking completely, so they have literally no rudder for truth or reality but simply believe whatever they are told to believe

He's normalized the idea of presidents ignoring norms and doing whatever the fukk they want without consequences.

And, of course, he's completely botched the government response to coronavirus and likely caused tens of thousands of deaths (or more) and cost millions of people their jobs.

He's appointed two far-right justices to the Supreme Court, one of whom is a straight Republican political operative.

I'm sure I'm forgetting shyt but that's a pretty damn bad list. He's done real damage to a rather remarkable scale.

In terms of other presidents....

Pierce and Buchanan played a large part in fukking up the country and placating the slaveowners to the degree that we ended up with Civil War.

Johnson did everything possible to fukk up the aftermath of the war.

Jackson wasn't all bad in some ways but was a raging a$$hole whenever it came to race issues.

And G.W. went ahead and brought us two wars, a total fukk-up of the budget, fed the corporate machine like crazy, responded to Katrina terribly, signed the Patriot Act and No Child Left Behind, and couldn't stave off the recession but worked (with Obama's help) to make sure the bankers were bailed out.

Nah, that china's communist party.
I believe their carbon footprint is nearly double the US's with the burning of coal still popular.

China has quadruple our population. So you're basically complaining that they are are keeping their people at half our consumption levels, when you want them to keep them at...what, a quarter of our lifestyle? A fifth?

Not to mention that a large portion of China's carbon footprint is pollution from their factories manufacturing the shyt that we and other nations buy.

The USA has driven global overconsumption for nearly a century. Whatever we do, others follow. We are the ones that largely facilitated China's rise to this consumption and pollution level, because we are the ones that upped their economic status by buying all that junk from them, we are the ones who invented a lot of the technology that creates all this pollution, and we are the ones who drive a global culture of extravagant over-consumption through our example and our media. It's ridiculous to suggest that China has been doing anything more than imitating us and getting pumped up by us.

And so long as we continue to set the bar, it is likely that they will continue to grow in consumption, potentially until they meet our per-capita levels. To imagine that the rest of the world is going to change while we're still using our massive media advantage and global profile to celebrate over-consumption is pretty naive.

:gucci:you on some bullshyt today you know the populations are way different lmao.

As is the case in every country emitting the high levels CO2, a small group of companies accounts for the lions share of emissions. This is lost when using per capita... we are talking literally about 4-6 companies in each of the top CO2 emitting countries destroying the planet.
Don’t let them use population as a smoke screen.
Coal production(the largest contributor to carbon dioxide emissions i believe) continues to increase in China(and India) and decreasing in America and EU.

:yeshrug:If we’re serious, we gotta stop :cape:for the coal burners.

Trump is in a weird place. He’s been actively bad. And he’s spiteful as fukk, but he just lashes out for the sake of lashing out. There’s no real rhyme or reason for some of the shyt he does. Ultimately the issue is going to be if this kind of behavior gets normalized. If more “drunk uncles” come into power, we’re in trouble.
