:stopitslime: Cube wasn't your "average" 20 YO rapper and the "average" 20 YO rapper was def not making songs like Black Korea or True To The Game

Back in the day, it was more commonplace. a lot of them black power MCs were in their 20s when they made joints like that shyt. I'm just giving you an example how people today are a lot less mature minded and still want to hop on trends.

There has always been music like this.. Pickin Boogers and The Pee Wee Herman wasn't exactly high brow or deep...

The only problem I have with current hip hop is lack of balance in the mainstream...

If we heard Miley Cyrus in between a Crossroads, Fight The Power or Dear Mama it wouldn't be so glaring...
I've been saying this for about four years now. I've been saying that's what the anger should be towards.

I refuse to listen to "Royals".

*complains on a message board*

*hope Hiphop changes*

the only thing you can do is avoid the stuff you dont like cause posting links to music you dont like only gives it more light and views.

This.

It just leads to redundant arguments and threads

I've seen them every year since 2005. This is nothing new.

If you don't fukk with Migos...fukk you.

No. What he's sayin is hip-hop fans can't appreciate shyt for what it is and are way too cynical now. If Pac and Big came out now fans would literally try and find a reason not to like them.

I agree with the bolded.

Songs like "Hannah Montana" and "Versace" aren't meant to be taken seriously.

This is why I don't fukk with these uber elitist underground/real hip-hop heads anymore. They have their heads way too far up their asses to even enjoy a song like "Versace" or "Hannah Montana" as if that makes them better than people. But really, they do that because they don't know anything about hip-hop at all and just can't enjoy themselves.

There's songs for all occasions and moods. Who says I can't enjoy Migos and then listen to Wu-Tang or Cannibal Ox?

People are getting mad at shyt that's not even geared for them anyways. I'm a 29 year old man, that Lorde song is for teeny boppers. That's like being 29 and getting mad at Spongebob Squarepants for being Spongebob Squarepants.

Im done with this shyt too

"Theres good music out there"

But they are hiding it. All the major releases this year have ranged from garbage to basura. I shouldn't have to go on a vision quest to find decent rap music, and in any case a lot of the shyt nggas call "good" is fukking corny anyway. I dont believe that shyt.

That whole 4 elements, DJing, breakdancing, graffiti, and Mcing era has been over. Hip-hop is pop music now. No if's ands or buts about it.

I'll admit, the game ain't what it used to be and it's embarassing and sometimes sad to see what hip-hop has turned to from the 90s to now but it's not going back to what it was anytime soon.

You can either enjoy the stuff you enjoy and ignore the stuff you don't. Complaining on a message board isn't going to do anything.

You should probably just do what I did...realize you're old and realize that hip-hop isn't for our generation anymore and keep it moving.

That's fair but this is a message board, so shouldn't it be a place for fans of all generations to come and talk about the game, for better or for worse?

Yeah, you right.

But talking about why the game sucks over and over again gets repetitive. I'd rather talk about what I do like instead of being the grumpy old man hating on everything.

We honestly need more people complaining on message boards and social media. I can totally except that as a listener I may not be part of this generation of hip hop as I age but that would be the cop out excuse. We have people well in their late 30's going into their 40's putting out some of this mess...so some of this is trans-generational and that is wrong.

Yeah you right. Most of the hot rappers now are in the 25-40 age range and their condoning this bullshyt. They only care about the money. They're just as bad as those clueless old suits in the boardroom running the show.

Again, I don't think she's talking about it as a "hip-hop" thing. It's a mainstream thing now. She's talking about what she sees in her own suburban neighborhood, which is white kids emulating rappers. I agree with you that the attachment to materialism in hip-hop has its roots in social issues, but that doesn't mean I'm going to cosign it. We'll have to agree to disagree on that issue.

Ask yourself, why do so many Black sports stars go broke?
http://www.blackisonline.com/2012/03/chapter-11-the-plague-of-sports-stars-going-broke/

Why do so many rappers go broke? http://www.complex.com/music/2013/03/a-history-of-rappers-going-broke/

Why is an album title like Get Rich or Die Trying (an album that defined an era of the music) not considered troubling when that's exactly what kids are doing out in the streets, instead of trying to set up a long-term, stable plan for success?

I've been defending hip-hop from white folks for years, but it's gotten harder and harder to defend as a culture. I'm tired of hearing every rapper use the "I'm just reflecting what goes on in the hood, I'm the hood CNN" excuse for those lyrics and messages. At this point, it's toxic. I'm not saying it can or should be forced to change just as a matter of lyrics, because it is a reflection of a deeper issue in the hood, but I can't cosign it, and I think it should be criticized

Here's a great article on the subject: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2009/aug/09/black-teenagers-money-matthew-ryder
