OK brehs...I am back in the office.

Just got back at midnight...mad tired.

For part of the visit we stayed with family in Santiago. Over there by Pepe Motors, for those that are in the know. For another portion of the trip we stayed at Lifestyles in Puerta Plata.

Some tips and observations:

Don't wear shorts in the city. You will be marked as a tourist if you have a fitted cap or shorts. The locals do not wear shorts, You will get begged for money until you are annoyed if you look out of place. :damn:. Getting begged is the best case scenario though. If you are frail-looking you could get juxed, from what I heard. :sadcam: I have a strong physical build so I that was not my problem I looked at friends like :comeon: and :demonic: and :rudy: and :birdman: and  and had no issues. I had one instance where my heart-rate was challenged into a fight or flight scenario. I was walking to get a Presidente and this scooter sped past us and spun around right behind us...like 2 feet away. :dwillhuh:. I had two seconds to make a decision. Do I put up a fight or give up the goods? Conventional wisdom says to give it up fast but that isn't in my nature. I was torn brehs. :patrice:. It turns out that I didn't have to do anything though, it was just a delivery scooter from the comado around the corner making a delivery. :wow:

The locals wear jeans....tight jeans mostly.:aicmon: . I have to admit that I saw some stylish people down there though. They try to be well-dressed at all times. Fitted polo's, no baggy pants, etc. :leon:. The women, The women....:banderas:. I was with my spouse so I was locked down and behaved. Even though I behaved and did not give cause for offense I still faced interrogation and questioning....:russ: . I didn't even do anything wrong brehs!!:to:.

There are good reasons why the locals do not expose much skin. The mosquitos are vicious. :sadbron:. Wear OFF! Also, clothing blocks the sun. You will be hotter with shorts on rather than with pants. :dahell:. It sounds counter-intuitive, but its the truth.

Another thing, you can use your American debit card over there but call your bank first to let them know that your out of country transactions are not fraudulent. Otherwise your account may get frozen and leave you without access to funds.

If you are going into the city.....you should ride a concho...just for the experience. :ohhh:. In the city, there are hundreds of little beat up cars that serve as cabs for short trips within the city...and it costs a few hundred pesos, or a few dollars. Its very convenient and fun but could also be dangerous because the traffic is ridiculous. :whoo:. In the conchos, they will fit like 3 people in the front and up to four in the rear.. If you go into the situation knowing this, it won't be much of a surprise. You just have to know where you are going.

Do not drink the water brehs. That may be obvious but I am mentioning it anyways. I think it's also common for your stomach to get sick for a day while your system adjusts to the food. There aren't any preservatives in the food, as we have it in the states. At the resort, I was out of commission for like a day. The bartender recommended a bumba....I think he said. Its like an alka-seltzer drink. I am not sure that it worked.:bryan:. I recovered in a day though.

The vendors at the resort will approach you all day to pressure you to buy something. You don't want to be mean but they will not leave you alone and it could get annoying. You don't want to be like :pacspit: so try to have patience. And do not be a sucker and buy everything offered to you because they made you sad about them not having a way home or food for dinner. :wtb:. You will find yourself without any Pesos if you accommodated everyone. It's just impossible. If you make eye contact with the vendors or the homeless, be prepared to have a 5 minute shakedown attempt.

I had to take my wifes money from her...she was giving it all away brehs. :damn:

The Dominican men that were working were not that sincere with their friendliness. It was about the pesos. So do not be fooled. You can see the realness when you say no. Some were on their :mjpls:....I think. I am not sure.

Overall, I did meet some nice local people that were sincere and wanted to befriend me though.

Oh...and know how to count your change....you may have to demand it back at times. :aicmon:

No pics brehs, sorry. :lolbron:

I am going back soon....:ohlawd:
