I'm liking Cena's new role as US Champion

-His open challenges every week guarantee at least one good match for Raw.

-He stays out of the main event and helps elevate a midcard title

-Gives a chance for midcard wrestlers to get some shine (even when they don't win)

:ehh:

That springboard Stunner has to go though. :francis:
I agree, I think this is a pretty good place for him to be right now. I do understand the fear though that this won't actually help someone though.

Honestly...this is where having 12 different PPV's a year is a detriment imo. Everything has to be about a build-up to the oncoming PPV, they can't do small, little 2 or 3 week storylines. Now THAT would really help push the midcarders. I know it's been like this for awhile but....:yeshrug: I just think it's kinda hard.

I would add a time-limit to the matches. Just lasting the distance against Cena would be a kayfabe accomplishment for a guy like Stardust. Then, like, they do it again without the limit, and if Cena wins, whatever, but at least it was a fight. Time limit adds other storytelling elements as well of course (Cena takes finisher, TIME RUNS OUT). Basically the WCW TV Title....

Of course, the match with Cody last night was relatively long, and it was pretty good, so....:manny:

Smarks Last Year - Push Cena to the midcard so he won't ruin the upcoming main eventers. :camby:

Smarks This Year - Cena's in the midcard. He's just going to go over everyone. :scust:

Yep, all those super over heels in the midcard. :mjlol: Only heels getting heat on that roster besides Sexy Seth (sometimes) are Kane (when he speaks) and Big Show. Really think about that. They need Cena in the midcard, desperately.

After being buried and being emasculated by Stephanie? No f1cking kidding they ain't as over as the heels getting all the mic time and doing heel sh1t every week. Well...except Miz. He and Mizdow are both over.

Once Rollins won the WWE title it made the whole giving Cena & Bryan the midcard belts pointless :manny:

If Brock was still champ & they were main eventing shows with the US & IC belts it might build them up. Right now it's basically something to keep Cena & Bryan out of the picture while they build Seth & Roman more. The Cena open challenge gimmick just makes it worse because he's going over the midcard & nobody is going to gain anything from it, especially when he's going to work somebody not involved with it on PPV.

If he at least makes the opponent strong on the way to pinning them then its not so much a burial than it is him being a fighting champion a la 92-93 Bret Hart

I'm still not sure about the springboard stunner, I think we're just not used to see him pull moves like that....like its weird looking back at Cena wearing normal wrestling outfits.

This seems to be underlying issue thats thwarted the plan, I agree.

My biggest problem with this is that he's obviously going to hold the title for a while, and thus bury every wrestler that 'challenges' him. Hell, two matches in he's already kicked out of like six finishers. Maybe after Extreme Rules they're actually going to use it to build someone else, but I really doubt it.

What really matters is if they keep this up AFTER Cena moves on....the US Title could be a nice part of the show if they let it. It can be dropped on Raws and shyt...like I said, make it the new TV Title.

Cena is putting on nice matches every week so far. This gives Dean/Neville/etc a chance to refine their characters before one of them takes the belt off Cena.

If someone puts on a good showing against Cena that's a good rub regardless. Cena shaking Ambrose's hand and acknowledging his performance in the match kayfabe wise was a way of getting put over, you don't need a win to be put over :what:
This, Cena's a 15x world champ it doesnt make sense for him to start a challenge and lose it right away
People forget it's story telling the wins and losses aren't what make the character 100%
