As a thug youngin' I had never paid much attention to live instrumentation, I mean the Roots weren't gettin their Pink Floyd on on anything but Illadelph was sonically different from anything out at the time, ESPECIALLY being played on BET. The first time I heard the drumroll on "Clones" I was :wtf::mindblown::ehh::dj2:.This ans "Things Fall Apart" has gotta be one of the greatest rap 1-2 punches in history.

Classic. Over the years, I have purchased this album at least 3 times after misplacing it or it being stolen. The Root best album by far!

Def need to buy this again. Lost my CD years ago so I just downloaded it. My Things Fall Apart CD has been through hell too. Don't even think it plays anymore:bryan:

i refuse to conform
Yo, Iuse the mic to slap you in the face and erase your taste
Disgrace your date put your title to waste
Dominant lyrical grace, from a place called wild
Illadelph Isle Pensy, that's the residency
Consist in currency, my pockets never empty
Some cats, believe they MC but we know they all fraud
Do a show in Philly nikkaz wouldn't applaud
Nobody know your record nor who you openin for
Can tell your squad's artificial while approachin the door
So you should prepare, for lyrical terror that's pure
Step up to the resevoir, of the soul proprietor style
messiah or, the higher law down with Dice Raw
The matador, shorty conniseur
Stom-pin whatever you build to the floor
Similar to that of a dinosaur
I told you I'm the rap predator
You insist to imitate, what for?
Superstar nikkaz is ten percent real, ninety percent invented
for a fukkin record deal
Comin with somethin veterans can't feel
I hit you like a steel anvil
Because you graf-ted off the next man's skill
But still I remain mellow, seein the theatrics of Othello
Run over tactics of the
C-L-O/N-E-S fess
The phoniest cats is felonious (word)

black thought rhyming was crazy on this joint

dice raw killed black thought and malik on clones with the first verse. that was brutal. after dice raw's verse, i don't even bother to listen to the rest of the record because there's no point.

but there's no doubt that this is a classic album. it's a shame that this record gets no love BUT somehow the 98 album gets all the praise and that album ain't even f*cking with this one.

Black Thought:whew:
Y'all know the dynasty, the Roots repertoire
The lieutenant from the reservoir, serve the spar
The injurar, preditar of a competitar
I send MCs where the paramedics are
At first, I'm like "nah", I'm nonchalant from afar
Then strike to cut the fake rap star jugular
With irregular balance of the cat burgla-rar
Known to parlay with Garcia Vega cigars
I know the flavor because me and the thugs minds are mutual
We congruent, lay on the corner with the trauma unit
I'm from the lab where the bomb's distibuted
So never try to duplicate the skills executed
Son you'd get electrocuted from the worldwide reputed
Shine like nickel heat that blow your mind when I shoot it
Some know me as the man that's from the Roots crew
Others as the bad lieutenant of Snyder Avenue
We go an eye for an eye
Behead like a samurai that'll command the dynasty until he die
Who will imply that I lack a-biliti?
Make your words known, amplify the u-tiliti
I'm crooked like the "I" on a toxic malt liquor
The land whipper, the Dom Perignon champ sipper
The fifth'll bring it all together like the zipper on a butter leather
The bad lieu a bring the bad weather
So to whoever got riff, let it rest
Reflect, then recollect on the way it was set
It's the veteran architect that flows with the rhythm of sex
Be on the low shotgun in the Lex
With my man low to flex
I'm restin where they handle the Tecs
And the lyrical vandal is next flow
So my man, my mizza, my man
M-ilitant, what's the master plan?
Once again...

Great album that I haven't listen to in years.

This was my favorite joint, though.
