I think what took him by surprise is winning the chip. He didn’t bank on that, matter of fact no one did. The chip is what made everything complicated. So yeah, I think all of this took him by surprise. Imagine leaving a team you just won a chip with aaaaand was finals MVP. NOT an easy decision.
Good players have left after winning championships before. Chris Long in the NFL for one.

I get what you're saying but I disagree with this. Dude could have easily made shyt easier for himself if the offense ran thru Blake Griffin more. Instead he chose to dribble the air outta the ball. Injuries to Blake happened, I know that and I don't remember all the other guards on the squad but he definitely could have made shyt easier.
He passed up a ton of fastbreaks with the Clipps as well. Blake and company were ready to sprint down the court and Paul was always like nah:scust:Lets slow it down and run a excruiating half court set where he'll dribble the ball for at least 20 seconds of the shot clock. Plus he refused to shoot/score unless we were down 20 or so. :camby:
