One story they all talk about is about Malik.

Seven years ago, Ward played for the Nashville Predators, having finally made the NHL full time in his late 20s. He signed up to be a Big Brother in the community and was paired with Johnson, a troubled 12-year-old who grew up in a neighbourhood where drug deals and shootings were common.

He was expelled from school multiple times. He needed help.

“This was a big undertaking,” Predators general manager David Poile recalled. “This wasn’t show up and make an appearance.”

Ward took Johnson to hockey games. He took him out for pizza. He worked with him on his homework, when he happened to be in school. He sat on the family’s porch, a millionaire pro athlete, in that bad part of town, simply talking and being a friend.

Johnson became an adopted son of the team, even after Ward signed with the Washington Capitals and left town in 2011. Another staffer became his Big Brother. Rebecca King, the team’s director of community relations, became his “second mother.” Johnson landed a job with the Predators, filling water bottles and helping the training staff. He improved.

Two weeks ago, with the Sharks locked in a tight conference finals series with the St. Louis Blues, Johnson – now 19 – graduated from Lighthouse Christian School. Ward had paid his tuition to one of the top private schools in Tennessee for years, investing more than $10,000 so that his Little Brother could become the first member of his family to graduate from high school.

Wherever he goes, Joel Ward leaves a lasting and meaningful impression :wow:

I was so sure the Sharks were gonna dominate this series...they look nothing like the team that beat the Blues...

Pittsburgh is just too quick... they are blocking damn near all of the Sharks shots from the point and even in the slot. And Murray has made big stops when the D broke down... I don't think the Sharks are playing that bad, but the Pens just put a lot of pressure and it makes guys move the puck faster than they want to.. they got Pavelski out there second guessing, passing up shots.

It really has nothing to do with there speed, theyre just getting out worked by PIT....

They have made small mistakes, and in this game a small breakdown or taking a shift off could lose you the game..Malkin goal yesterday is a good example of a small breakdown that cost them the game...they had more than enough chances to win the game, they just arent executing or making the small plays...

Murray played well but its more SJ just not executing...they had a ton of chances where they didnt even get a shot on goal because theyre overthinking the moment and dont have confidence...Its crazy how they lack confidence in this final and they had so much of it against STL...

Looks like a completely different team, its weird...

They are getting outworked for sure, but Pittsburgh's quickness is helping them get into shooting lanes and convert that the other way. There are too many Sharks gliding out there at times, when Pittsburgh seems to want to attack every inch of the ice. I see plays where the D is trying to exit the zone, and they'll go d to d behind the net and the receiving dman will let the puck get to him and before you know it, theres a forechecker on him.

The striking thing to me is Pavelski....he's passing up shots because he's overthinking. I think the Sharks for the most part played their most even game of the series last night, but that powerplay goal was a killer. Their problem is, in order to put pressure on Pittsburgh, the D has to get involved, but eventually Pittsburgh will counter and get into odd man situations.

They can avoid having to do that if they score first and not keep having to play from behind...

Yea that's been the problem... They have to get that first goal. There are times where Pittsburgh is on their heels in their own zone..but they don't get enough pucks to the net to take advantage. I just want to see one more home game and have the chance to force it to a 7th game.

Sharks are going to go down in flames.
They are evenly matched teams, but last night was an example of not being able to score when you need to. Pittsburgh was providing enough push back in the second and third periods to only allow one goal.
