Cyclops is one of the most thorough members of the group and a top 5 X-man easily.
I remember when Mastermind used his illusions to convince the team that Cyke was the Dark Phoenix reincarnate. My dude single handedly outwitted and ethered the entire squad (nightcrawler, storm, rogue, colossus, kitty, and wolverine). He knocked rogue out with some poppy dust, and had her touch Xavier ( in a coma at the time) so she'd get his telepathic powers, which wound up exposing mastermind's entire plot.
And nearly everything he does in astonishing is

So Cyclops in all of his 50+ years of existence ain't better than the Hulk. you can't even write a great hulk story. He's like a retarded Superman.

Another great classic cyclops moment was when they were all captured by the hellfire club and he managed to snap jean out of her mind control after dueling shaw on the psychic plane. Losing that duel should have killed him, but he still soldiered up, freed the rest of his squad, and blasted nearly all of the inner circle through the walls and floors. 
Edit: they stepped his game up majorly recently too. For awhile he was rolling deep, forming his own extinction team with Emma Frost, Magik, and Magneto. Dude went full militant, blowing sentinels in the streets, calling other mutants Uncle Toms, fronting off the Avengers, and riding for mutant kind by any means necessary

Like I said, I'm not a Cyclops fan and dude was pretty
to me back in the day...And like I said, it's more about his position on the list. Obviously they must've stepped his game up or something from what I remember
But I can't even remember him having his own story/major enemy without the xmen either

Oh that's BS I'm drunk and Cyclops turned into Apocalypse in the 12 story line. and every X event damn near since he's been the backbone of the x-men. Hulk GTFOH. outside of his appearance in the avengers that cat been wack. he's Bizzaro.
