Most atheists I know don't have a basic understanding of science or religion and yet act like experts on both.

If you think you're intellectually above believing in an intelligent creator then you better know what you believe in.

The universe had a beginning and time space and matter didn't always exist. What ever created it or triggered its expansion had to exist independentally from time space and matter to do it and that sound like a lot of descriptions of God to me :yeshrug:

What's funny is I've actually used that argument before on behalf of a creator...and I'm an atheist.

It sounds good, and it's enough for simple-minded people, but upon further analysis, it turns out to be mere conjecture. We simply don't have enough information to make assumptions about the origin of time (largely a manmade concept) and assuming everything has a cause opens a can of worms about the supposed creator's origins.

Maybe the atheists you've encountered lack a basic understanding of science and religion, but I cannot relate as I have done extensive study of both.

And claiming you need to be a genius to justify your atheism is stupid. You don't need a PHD to stop believing in Santa Claus. :francis:

Measured comments are butthurt now?

So then your point is that athiests have more general knowledge about world religions than people who follow specific religions? Ok.

Those who are unaffiliated and adhere to no particular religion know even less than them.:wow:. Atheists obviously are anti-religion. You tend to know about something you have a stance against.

I just did the test (14/15). Quite a few general knowledge questions thrown in there. It's not exactly a quiz that should be used to draw any sort of conclusion tbh.

First, you’re assuming that the universe is linear, with a beginning middle and end. There is no reason to make such an assumption. The universe could be eternal.

Second, these types of first cause arguments are inherently contradicting. If everything must have a cause and therefore the universe must have been created by a god then what created the god? And what created that, what created that? You have to follow the chain of causation all the way back you can’t just stop where it’s convenient for your claim.

Even if you believe that the universe was created by someone or thing then where is the proof that this entity is a rational thinking, consciousness that also is a parental figure that cares about you?

Also remember atheists aren’t making the claim; believers are.
I think its fair to assume the universe had a beginning because thats the general scientific consesus and it just makes sense .Things are expanding from a single point which can be seen and if the universe always existed we would be Cold Death status by now and all the stars would have burned out.
God doesn't need a creater because he exists out of that chain of causation. Time doesn't apply to him nor space nor matter. And our idea of rationality and consciousness is different even between us so of course it would be worlds different to a supreme being. Anything that can create the complexity of the universe and the complexity of the human mind we can't relate to or undesrtand unless that being wants us to.

definitely. it's also easier to be ignorant towards something you blindly support.

as an agnostic, that has read the old testament and new testament. the bible makes it VERY EASY to become a non-believer. most black folks (or christians in general) have never taken the time to study what they claim to believe.

.

That's why it's called faith and not logic though.

My question is though, if a religious person is not imposing their religion on you, why should it affect you personally? :jbhmm:

faith in something you wont even take the time to educate yourself on :jbhmm: faith in something you only believe because our oppressors forced it upon us. :jbhmm:

also, what world do you live in where christians/religious folk don't impose their views on others?

But what is 'Good' and what is 'Bad'? The beauty of subjectivity :wow:

Bad are the heretics who claim to be Christians like the OP and @sportscribe

Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. -

Human beings have a natural inclination to believe in God. This is how weve been the majority of our history.
