With the amount of times Gloria deliberately put herself in harm's way, there's no doubt in my mind Tony would have killed her eventually. People with her personality disorder tend to be highly addictive in relationships and while the highs are fascinating like Tony described to Dr. Melfi, it also comes with devastatingly lows which we saw commence at her house. Combine that with her pretty much acting like Livia 2.0 and yeah, that affair was only gonna get uglier.

Fish broads out of Dr. Melfi's waiting area, brehs.
Valentina is the one I would've rawed dog

I saw the issues with Tony’s leadership during the first watch but it was easy cause I was binging over the course of a couple months

Doing the second watch now and it’s rough seeing all his mistakes. Finishing season 3 as I type this
like why would you give Richie Aprile's jacket to the maid? Especially after all the fukkery Richie been doing, how much of an idiot can you be?

The vito situation is the only area I think Tony fukked up on.

Otherwise I dont think it was possible for Tony to have been a better boss. I think one of the nascent themes of The Sopranos is that the mafia is an inherently evil organization and that even the most "noble" of them will eventually be corrupted by greed, arrogance, lust, or anger.

Hit Phil and his top guys way sooner. After one of those tense meetings.

There's some leadership things he was shaky on. His temper inspired fear, but it also inspired chaos and uncertainty.

You can make all kinds of Chris arguments, but the way he treated him in the end, was wrong. He always did a push/pull thing with Chris and most of his top guys.

Once Tony was killed, who took over?

With Carlo about to flip, im pretty sure that NY would just take over. The whole DeMeo/Soprano family is finished

Whack Carmine Sr. and let Johnny Sack run NY. Once Phil gets out he’s in prime position to be on good terms with Tony and next in line.

Tony fukking Valentina led to Ralph burning down the stable in response which led to Ralph getting killed which caused a lot of internal strife and then Vito being Capo which then caused a bunch of more strife. Had Tony just not fukked her then who knows what happens. Him and Ralph had just started to finally get along

I always knew Tony was a shytty person, but this thread is the first time I realized how much of a shytty boss he was.

He constantly ignored the crew's problems, put himself before everybody else, made decisions that put people in danger, and disregarded how important loyalty was. You could argue he killed Gigi by making him captain instead of Ralph because the stress was too much for him.

To answer the original question, if I was Tony, there are a couple of three things I would have done differently:

1. Never beaten Zellman in front of Irina. Tony was just upset because Irina was happy with someone else when he didn't want to be with her anyway. She ended up telling Carmela about Svetlana out of revenge, which led to the separation. If Tony never shows up to Zellman's house that night, Irina never calls the house.

2. Give Tony B up. I know he was trying to protect him from Phil, but nobody in the crew was with him on that. Tony B cost them money (Vespa scooters, imported provolone) and guys in the crew were getting assaulted for nothing (Benny). I'm pretty sure Vito threatened to kill Tony because of how far things had been taken. The war with New York might have still happened, but this was one of Tony's biggest mistakes.

3. Supported Chris in the last two seasons. Guy was obviously sensitive about being sober and unable to hang out as much, and all Tony did was criticize him. He was the one that pushed him to get clean and resented him for it. He was five seconds away from sleeping with Adriana and implied that even if he didn't do it, Christopher wasn't good enough anyway. Chose Tony B over him. Showed no sympathy after Adriana died and made it seem like Chris had to get over it. Tony blew up a perfectly good relationship for no reason and drove Christopher to make that movie. He stopped looking at Chris as family and started looking at him as an enemy. He could have used him in the war with New York.

A lot of Tony's struggles came because he dumbed himself out of position. He was never a great boss, but he just got worse over time. Jackie would have died twice if he saw what Tony turned into.

Not giving up Tony B might've been his biggest error. That or not giving up Vito/handling that situation faster

If Tony had that drink, Ralph would've been loyal to him for life. Still might've fukked up because he's a loose cannon but he wouldn't have hesitated to run through a wall for Tony. The satisfaction that came with snubbing Ralph in that moment wasn't worth it, no matter how good it felt.

I agree with this. The downfall can really be traced to the loss of the best earners. Ralph was raking in cash, and then Vito was doing the same. I get that Tony had to humble Ralph but given their history going back to growing up together it was stupid to let shyt blow up the way it did.

But then again Tony is still Tony and odds are even if they had the drink, he would have still found a way to kill Ralph out of spite and self sabotage.

There were some good things Tony did, and some bad things. It was wise Tony had Ralph handle that Jackie JR situation. It was wise, at first Tony gave Chris some grace and did the intervention/rehab. It was even wise that Tony didn't have Chris clipped because Adriana was snitching.

It was foolish for Tony not to have that drink with Ralph. Tony should've also def clipped Carmine Sr and had Johnny Sack takeover. It would've saved Tony lots of headaches in the long run.

I understand Tony not giving up Tony B. That was family. Tony should've took out Phil Leotardo, early on when he saw he was an enemy. This is such an incredible series. I rewatch it at least once a year

I always felt like Phil saw Johnny Sacks as p*ssy, and never really respected him. He probably looked at Johnny as food once he saw Johnny didn't go full measure and have Ralphie clipped for insulting his wife.
