When India entered the Sri Lankan civil war on the side of the government against the rebels, the president of Sri Lanka ordered his army to give weapons to the rebels for free so that they would expel the Indian army from the island. All this goes to show that there is a lot of bad blood between the countries and a lot of bad history. What Americans seem to not understand is the whole rest of the world outside of the western hemisphere is just like the Balkans. There is hundreds if not thousands of years of bitterness and hate and violence between the various peoples who inhabit Africa, Asia, and Europe. Just because Africans look like other Africans, Asians look like other Asians, and Europeans look like other Europeans, doesn't mean that they all get along and that they all like each other. Far from it. This is why almost all of the civil wars, insurgencies, and terrorist groups in operation today are based in one of those three continents. Because there are real, ancient beefs that have never been squashed or settled.
