Space is the Place
I have been reading a bunch on here and social media and it seems clear that many people misunderstand human motivations.
The Dems thought about using "carrots" (celebs) and "sticks" (Obama scolding) and neither worked.
Some people said more education is needed since maybe an ignorance gap is the problem. Maybe in part, but there are also value questions too.
Others say we should sympathize with and appeal to people's emotions or vanity and this can work, but it is a short term fix.
The big thing it seems the Democrats and aligned people don't understand is the motivation for those who have little power to feel empowered.
Trump knows this well. He isn't doing shyt for the poor or working class Whites or Latinos that support him but he realizes that by making them feel a vote for him is a power play against elites and a society they think doesn't work for them, he doesn't have to prove anything else. He and his presence are made to seemingly empower these folks and they will go to the ends of the Earth for that feeling.
The people like Tariq understand this too because they pitch "the couch" as a power play against a Dem elite and bootlick establishment that has scorned Black folks. Read his comments. People are all saying "we did it!"
No one is asking how to make non voting Black folks feel their political participation is empowering. Our ancestors felt different because they had to fight to gain a right to vote denied previously
Talking about Project 2025, making invidious comparisons between Black men and women, and recruiting Cardi B do nothing for someone that seems to feel their grip is slipping. In fact, it could have the opposite effect.
If we don't look to empower the individuals checking out of the process then we don't really want their vote--or even care about their aspirations.
