While I don't fully agree with the TikTok ban, I think it's because it's a dominant Chinese player in the social media game rather than them just being Chinese alone. You also have to look at what China allows in their country. They don't allow any foreign services unless they bend to the will of the Chinese government. You can't use Instagram, Facebook, and other service in China. If they're not going to allow our services in their country, why allow them in ours.

Because we claim to be a capitalist free market where consumers determine winners and losers. China has never claimed to be that.

If we ban foreign products because consumers prefer it over American products, how is that a free market? That is literally communism

they're not proposing a trade embargo with china though, they're targeting an app. giving the the government the same censorship power that the CCP regularly employs is more harmful to americans in the long run than tiktok could ever be. the won't stop at tiktok and it won't just be foreign owned websites. china isn't a free speech or free market proponent and when the U.S so called ideals get tested, look how they're abandoning them.
