whitney Houston.
i mean, its not a blowout, but its not that close either.

plus janet voters need to be more worried about beyonce.

Nah, it is closer than you think. Vocally, no one is touching Whitney. However, strength of catalog, Janet wins that easily.

And remember, Janet was one of the pioneers of new jack swing and what later became contemporary r&b. Control is what started it all. When Whitney had to “toughen up” her sound later on, she went that route...but Janet was already doing it.

"Impactful"

Thats a toss up

Whitneys vocals will be remembered until the end of time. Janet's pleasure principle will forever get performed by other artist

Dancers are still learning and perfecting the choreography to it

the bolded is false.

and the main knock on prime janet is that she was seen as just a studio product musically - couldn't sing and didn't make up for it by writing or producing. she did start writing at the tail-end of her prime, but that's after her signature works.

meanwhile, whitney was competing with Michael. its an insult to turn around 20-30 years later and start comparing her to janet.

janet queen of the r&b female entertainer/performance lane, but beyonce is knocking on the door.

Beyoncé doesn’t even have Aaliyah’s influence.

Have a seat lol

Aaliyah is only influential because she died.

Control was most definitely the first new jack swing album. This is a fact.

What’s also a fact is that Whitney received A LOT of negative criticism in the beginning for making what a lot of people considered watered down Soul. She went urban on her third album, I’m Your Baby Tonight, when she decided to “toughen up” her sound. This was 1990. Janet was already leading in that department by that time.

And you’re bugging acting like Janet wasn’t in the same realm MJ was. Her chart run in the 80s and early 90s was absolutely sick. fukk is wrong with you?

nah

that's not new jack swing breh, that's just upbeat r&b, and a continuation of jimmy jam, terry lewis and their ilk.

this is true,

but none of that was a knock on her talent.

Here we go.

When the right singer and producer come together, magic is destined to take place. In 1986, Janet Jackson teamed up with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for her third studio album, ‘Control.’

The producer-duo took R&B to the next level by bringing in funk elements to the sound at the time. This is credited as the introduction of the new jack swing era.

At the time, Janet was only 20, and had a lot to say about stating her independence as a young woman. ‘Nasty,’ a popular track about Janet’s annoyance with sexual harassment, is regarded as the song that popularized the new jack swing era.

Her 1986 album Control is important to the development of R&B for a number of reasons. The primary producers of Control, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Jackson herself, crafted a new sound that fuses the rhythmic elements of funk and disco, along with heavy doses of synthesizers, percussion, sound effects, and a rap music sensibility.

:sas2:

Like I said, Control started everything. Even Whitney fell in line.

And you better look up Janet’s numbers. Janet has more hits records than Whitney does, per Billboard.
