When Bush and his daddy debo'ed the election away from John Kerry...
I know in that moment my vote never meant shyt
The 2004 election was a little dicey, but that one was actually fairly legit. You can't blame Bush when Kerry wasn't able to pull enough swing states like Ohio to win. That's on Kerry and the Democratic party as a whole.
It's really quite fascinating to examine the 2000 Presidential Election, however, which was
quite literally stolen.
Al Gore won the popular vote in Florida (and no less than 3 subsequent recounts confirmed as such) and due to ridiculous and antiquated rules, it still remained "too close to call". I'm sure we all remember the story: hanging chads, hand-counting, certain left-leaning counties having apparent voter fraud, etc.
Nonetheless, by any conceivable metric, Al Gore won the popular vote in Florida by the slimmest of margins and, by extension, the presidency.
Following the ballot-counting fiasco, (also ridiculous and antiquated) laws stated that the decision for which candidate won Florida (and, again, the presidency as a result) would ultimately reside with a majority decision in the Supreme Court. As you may know, there are 9 Supreme court justices, and the final vote tally ended up 5-4 in favor of Bush.
Funny thing is, the 5 justices who voted for Bush Jr were previously appointed... by George Bush Sr when he was in office.
