We're in year two of complete rebuild and Cutler is now getting like the 14th highest yearly cap hit for a QB which is OK. His salary isnt holding us back since we moatly looking to build through draft. He has no more guaranteed money, so he's year to year at this point. Ryan Pace tried trading him when he came in, nobody bit. Then figured it would be better than rolling with him than a Keenum level type. I'm surprised they haven't drafted a developmental QB yet, but maybe they haven't liked the past two drafts once they couldn't get the top guys because of draft position. I think going into this year they thought the young guys were ready to be a sneaky 9-7 team and if you don't retain Jay that's just not possible
I like keeping him tbh, he gives us a chance to compete if the youngins are ready but at the same time he's no longer guaranteed money and not slowing down the rebuild
I don't believe in full on tanking in the NFL, Bears will prob go 7-9 bit if things click 9-7 and some playoff hope which this fnabase sorely needs isn't out of the question but it wouldn't be possible without Jay
Sorry for th rambling
