There are benefits to having a car ultimately because in times of emergency and when you really need control over your schedule having a vehicle is a blessing, a timesaver and peace of mind
Having said that great public transport/ridesharing is the killer app and the sooner that is perfected the better for society as a whole. The whole lot, hyperloops between cities, bullet trains, etc etc
