Expound please. Is this exactly how you said it? Breh, you could have worded it differently if it is. Teaching taught me that HOW you relay the message is just as important as the message itself. Why don't you try something like "have you thought about going natural? I really think you'd look pretty with an afro, locs, whatever." Explain why. When you're trying to open someone's eyes to a new perspective, it is best to avoid negative connotations and language.
It really isn't about defending weave. No one in here is defending weave. However, since I can only really speak for myself I'll say again. I haven't worn a weave in going on a decade. When I worked for an airline, I've worn wigs when I didn't have the time to style my fro. When I was about to leave the airline I started my locs, but I had to wear wigs a little more often because short locs were against policy. Hardly a reflection of my "true feelings."
I don't like chronic weave wearing. Again, most of us here agree on that. Yes, I believe chronic weave wearers have a problem with their natural hair. However, the argument that some (well namely two) are making is that if a woman wears a weave, even for one week out of 52, she must hate her hair. It is a ridiculous, baseless notion. When different reasons were given as to why a woman may wear a weave from time to time, they were dismissed.
Why not? It is statements like this that show that while some of you talk a good game, but in reality you don't know the dynamics of natural hair.
