Let's just hypothesize that the season will be able to resume on June 9, after a three month layoff. So games begin that day, Tuesday June 9...

Have everybody play out the string of their games that were originally scheduled on March 29 to the end of the year (April 15), with the same amount of days between games as normally scheduled. I already looked at it, this means every team in The League will play 8-10 games over the final 17 days of the season, 2½ weeks to get everyone's rhythm and conditioning back in shape and geared for the postseason...

Basically, it's a slightly longer preseason, except the games actually count, and gives teams time to build for the postseason. Every team in The League will end with between 72 (Utah) and 75 (Dallas) games played, with the vast majority at 73 or 74, regular season would end Friday, June 26...

Start the playoffs Monday, June 29 with abbreviated best-of-5 1st Round series. First Round at the latest would end on Friday July 10. All the other rounds could be best-of-7 as normal, as the remaining 8 teams have had a month of game training to be able to handle potentially three 7-gane series. Inevitably, all series won't go 5 in the 1st, so the first Semifinals games can start on 7/10 as well...

Last 2nd Round game would take place on Saturday, July 25. Start the conference finals on Monday, July 27. Last possible conference final game would be Saturday, August 8. Begin The Finals five days later on Thursday, August 13 with a maximum possible end date of Saturday, August 29...

So you can have a two-month playoff and a realistic warm up regular season and have the entirety of it completed before September, which still makes you feel connected to the regular season before the layoff. Of course, you'd then have to abbreviate all of the offseason programs and the 2020-21 regular season, and this may be a good case study for shortening the regular season to 72 or 74 games anyway...

The offseason would be halved, I would start training camp somewhere around October 12 and preseason somewhere around two weeks later. Season would start in mid-November about a month later, start it somewhere on the weekend of the 13th, and we'd be playing either a 72 or 74 game schedule, probably 72. And everything from that point on would be business as usual...

Of course, I'm a huge advocate that if the season doesn't begin by June 9, cancel the season outright and pass out the awards. You can't go longer than a 3-month layoff without severely impacting the logistics of the following season, if the season can't resume by June 9 cancel and focus on '21 beginning on time...
