The team with the best record doesn't always win the championship.
Over the course of the season, you could make a strong argument that the team atop the standings after 82 games is the best team of the season....because they've proven it over a long sample size.

But we have a playoff system, not an English Premier League type system.
So whether it's an 82 game regular season or 60 game regular season...you still run the playoffs and whoever wins, you accept that as your champion.
