We're debating this now in this thread.. Where you have African Nations which are home to gifted athletes with no huge basketball or American football aspirations interfering nor pulling kids away from soccer/football but still don't achieve high levels of quality on the bigger stages of the sport.

Alot of the african nations have better athletes but dont have the technical skills whicch is why they constantly get beat by the Croatias,Switzerlands and Sweden who definitely are lesser athletes....

We need to develop our youth at a younger age. Not in high school or college.
More than technical skills it's tactics, discipline and team building. Most African nations have European coaches to this day. The level of professionalism in national staff has to improve from youth level up. Iceland has what, less than half a million inhabitants and they qualified for the euros and world cup. Their players, some of them are semi pro. Made it out of the group stage this euros. That is a behemoth effort, almost defies logic. Damn they drew against Argentina just now. It can be done, look at boxing in West Africa these days.
