Didn't have to. Tank was essentially Butterbean. Goldberg was significantly bigger stronger and more athletic and even with the most remedial grappling/wrestling ability which he had to have had given he owned the biggest mma gym in the country, he would have handled himself.

Goldberg didn't fukk with MMA till a while after he retired and this was long after MMA took off here...and even then he did purely muay thai first

Surprised this didn't come up earlier. UFC was throwing all kinds of shyt against the wall in their very early days to see what stuck. He was certainly no Shamrock or Severn in UFC.
