Their "we need to care about it in order to do well" argument is just an excuse for their lackluster efforts. It's also an excuse that buys them time to get on par. I've been hearing this about America and Soccer (really Football) since the late 90's.

I thought about and realized that you may got a point. Since America is the richest nation in the world, we can afford the best players all around the fukking world, and after 5 years or so we could naturalize their ass and turn them into american citizens. All those great foreign players around the world would be playing for TEAM USA. I mean, if soccer was the most popular sport in america of course.
