I remember when I went to NYC, I got the best gloves of my life from a street vendor for $2 :wow: I still got em. Them shyts gotta be quadruple layered and the wrist part of it the longest I ever seen. Like a short gym sock. I've bought the thinnest, weak ass at Walgreens for $3! :mindblown:

All that to say, to my NYCers no matter how much shyt people talk on thecoli or elsewhere, y'all still got the glove game on lock :salute: Y'all are the fukking goat with them gloves :damn: Never forget that

This is about how long the wrist part of the gloves are :wow: When I wrap them around the cuffs of my jacket/hoodie :ohlawd: #NYCgloves

NYC's mecca reputation is valid and it comes from a combo of a lot of things. Gauchos AAU, Rucker, West 4th, Kingdome, MSG, places like Abe Lincoln, Christ the King, Xaverian, SJU (back in the day). Its probably the best place to grow up playing basketball.

still though...much like NYCs rep when it comes to just about everything else, NYC's basketball mecca rep leans heavily on the past. tournaments lost funding, places like Christ the King changed, St. Johns fell off, etc... plus the world is smaller now and kids who are on the path can goto prep academies like oak hill or the place in jersey, move across country to play for an AAU team, and get looks from anywhere in the country. UConn, Nova, and Syracuse still recruit kinda heavily in NYC but not as much as they did back in the day

In reference to Rucker park, the Harlem globe trotters, PeeWee Kirkland, And 1 street ball. It has nothing to do with the NBA team itself. LeBron and Curry are from Akron, Jordan is from North Carolina. Kyrie Irving is from Jersey. There's talent everywhere. NY street ball is as popular as football is to the south. It's essentially part of African American culture up north along with Hip Hop. Not every talented New York player gets drafted to Brooklyn or New York. Do you know how the lottery works?

It's amazing how many people don't know how to use the term "Mecca". It means it's a spot where due to the rich history that's here, no matter who you are, you gotta come through. MSG is considered the Mecca of basketball because everybody dreams of coming here to play, whether as a hometown kid or a visitor.

As for why the talent level has decreased, that's due to a lot of factors, none of which I care to explain in this thread since it's just a thread to showcase the threadstarter's inferiority complex.
