All the Androids in DBZ were only as strong as they were designed to be. Saying they can become stronger just by training is stupid. I wouldn't be surprised is Toriyama "recently" said this though.

He said something of the sort regarding 17 and 18 since they were technically Cyborgs, not full Androids. Since they have a "human" base they can get stronger from training... Cell is a pure Android like 16 so they don't get stronger via training. Makes sense in the DBZ universe, I guess

But unlike android 16...he isn't a machine. He has DNA from various people who have all gotten stronger from training. There's no reason he shouldn't be able to do the same.

Cell's a living organic lifeform not an Android. He had an evolutionary process and grew as he aged. He just had the ability to absorb energy and went after the Androids because they had unlimited energy.

Nah Android 16, 17 and 18 were built the way you see them. They have robotic parts and could be controlled and shut down by remotes. Cell was a fully living organism who could grow as he aged. He had to be given hypnotic suggestions as an embryo to complete Gero's mission.

It's simple...

Cell is an Android.

Androids are built/designed/created.

Cell was designed to increase with power by absorbing people and absorbing 17 and 18 to evolve.

The only reason he absorbed people was to get strong enough to absorb the other androids.

That was his ONLY purpose... because Androids are created with a purpose, and not to just train to get stronger.

He was not designed to gain strength through training. Just like a chair isn't designed to fly.

For the record -

Cell = Bio-Android.
Androids 17/18 = Cyborgs...they're basically just humans who Dr. Gero kidnapped and gave some cybernetic parts. This is why Android 18 could have a kid.
Androids 16/19 = Actual Androids.


I'm pretty sure Cell could get stronger from training if he bothered. If the people he's composed of could all get stronger then there's no real reason he couldn't, even if Gero didn't have that in mind.
