Welterweight Money May version of Floyd went life and death with Maidana, which is the fighter that might show us the closest comp to the tactics I think Ward could use to beat Floyd. Albeit a poor mans version

purely subjective of course but Ward is a great fighter but he did struggle in some fights. I dont remember Floyd struggling in any fight including JLC. in that fight he gave just as good as he got. reminds me in a way of RJJ-Tarver I. JLC was getting busy no doubt but it looked worse than what it was to a degree because Floyd was handling fighters with relative ease up until that point.

Floyd had a tough time figuring out Maidana.

WW was not prime Floyd, far from it as ridiculous as it sounds. at 130 he was untouchable. Damn near same at 135. Castillo has to be Floyd's toughest fight and thats because going in to that fight he had something to prove so he stood in the pocket with him. Next time out, he made it an easier fight. He couldve legit stunk it out against Maidana and it wouldve been no contest but again, he was trying to build his brand back to get those subsequent deals and people were saying he was boring. The difference between JLC and Maidana is, I think Floyd underestimated JLC and found himself in a real fukkin fight for where with Maidana, he knew he could pretty much get away with more and control him because his style was crude. Floyd's jab and footwork win him the fight. Maybe Ward figures something out in the later rounds, but Floyd will make adjustments.

Floyd doesn't outclass Ward and Ward doesn't outclass Floyd.
I think it would have been a great fight, but I think physicality workds in Ward's favor.
Ward is a nice boxer, but he can be downright dirty and physical like a prime B-hop. its one of the things I love about him as a fighter.
I would tend to side with Ward in getting Floyd completely out of his comfort zone with fouling, butting, fighting hyper negatively, just squeaking by a disputed win.

I think a more intersting fight would be Cory Spinks vs. Floyd at 147

Ward’s inside game and ring iq would be unlike something Floyd has ever seen. I don’t see how it would be “not close”

Watch the Hatton fight when Floyd didnt let hatton try and bully him. Inside fighting has a lot to do with skill than just strength, look at James Toney at heavyweight. Floyd gives him that shoulder and lead elbow all night. When Ward see's that aint working and goes mid distance it be a wrap
