I don't get how you can say he has skill but his discography is ass :jbhmm:

If his discography is ass then where did he display his skill?

I've said it a million times on this board. he's an amazing rapping technician, but his musicianship (am I using that word right?) is largely terrible.

His ear for beats, his ear for good sounds, his production choices, his ideas of what makes a dop song...most of that is sub-par. He does best when he has someone like Dr. Dre or Just Blaze to help steer him.

Maybe even more-so than Drugs, Em's biggest mistake IMO was whoever gassed him up and made him think he was a dope producer. Because once Em went from doing some little co-production every now and then, to full on producing entire songs and executive producing his own albums, his music went to total shyt.

fukk it...I'll take Relapse (an album that a past-prime Dr. Dre produced like every joint on) over an album like Encore or Recovery all day.

After 2002, Eminem hasn't made a dope album arguably.

MMLP is his best album (no secret there.)

top 20 for sure, he would of been top 10 if he had more albums like Marshall Mathers LP & The Eminem Show. most of his music aged terribly tho.

Huge Em fan, always defend him. That being said, when he started taking producing serious he started to fall off. Beats were never dope. I do think he has had dope albums since 02, but I always felt the producing thing hurt him. The drugs took his soul and you need soul to make good beats IMO lol

He has no classics...MMLP and Eminem Show are good sure but i gotta :rudy: at anyone who still plays any of his albums in 2017

Top 20 as far as tha technical aspects of rapping...i will begrudgingly give him that but he is :trash: at every other aspects of rap

And his discography is weak as hell

Wait, what?

Yeah, the one major criticism I see here is that from a musical standpoint, Eminem isn't at the level of many other rappers. I maintain that his early beats when he was doing a couple songs on an album were dope. He wasn't Premier or Kanye-level, but he wasn't as awful as people make it seem. "The Way I Am," "Renegade," "'Til I Collapse," "Cleanin' Out My Closet," "Lose Yourself," "The Cross," "Mosh," "Like Toy Soldiers." Those were all good, and three of them ("'Til I Collapse," "Lose Yourself," "Like Toy Soldiers") are classic IMO. The problem is Eminem only knows one kind of sound as a producer, and if you're going to make dope beats, you have to have a big musical IQ. It got to the point where his beats sound one dimensional, and he comes off as the kind of person that really needs to be sat down and talked to about his music.

I don't know why he doesn't work with the Bass Brothers anymore, or get Dre to do more beats for him. Or consult any of these legendary producers to give him something.

Slim Shady em is the best, no one is fukking with him 98-01. But that's a sall part of his career. I was the biggest em Stan there was but looking back now 80% of his catalog is trash but that 20% is some of my favorite music
