I'm glad its finally mainstream to talk about mandatory minimums and drug laws and the school to prison pipeline and all that stuff...Its exciting that something may be on the verge of taking place...
...but i'm talking to my enlightened black people here...(i.e. those with assets, something to lose, a stake in their communities, of age and experience, etc.)
If the only issue on the table for us is literally only keeping us out of prison...then we really need to reassess what it is we're looking for legislatively.
This CAN NOT be the only issue that presidential candidates have to address black people with.
Its like the left only offers, "hey, we'll lock you up less"...and thats it?
Is this really the ceiling on what black americans have on the table for debate?
It just kinda bothers me that of all the issues other groups are pressing for and lobbying for, that all blacks can ask for is to not go to jail for doing things that are still illegal and/or wrong to engage in at the end of the day.
Look around at these candidates. All i'm seeing relating to blacks is: "well they did some illegal shyt back in the day but we've locked them up enough so we'll let you go"

Imo, I assume it's easier to argue for justice reform than some other topics that some view as serious problems facing black ppl.
Ex. for one to claim that lenders are discriminating against blacks -- on a widespread level -- because there is a disparity in outcome with whites, one has to provide hard evidence that inputs(credit scores and such) are equal to whites.
Same thing goes for a lot of the other alleged issues too.
One more thing, OP asked why do black congress members not rally against illegal immigration when it's harming black ppl...I think the more appropriate question to ask is why would anybody ever expect a group that is majority democrat and have a vested interest in racial diversity take a anti-illegal immigration position...

The funny thing is most people I know have never been to jail, are middle class, and dont have kids yet talk about "Bernie being for us" and he is talking about stuff that doesnt impact them when it comes to the "Black issues" he does "address".
In all honesty they can keep the Criminal laws how they are and wipe out welfare completely and I wouldn't care, reason being is because I`m more for the creation of a system to get people OUT of their bad situation opposed to putting a band aid on it.

You have a good amount of Millenial Blacks who make good money BUT are paying an INSANE amount of taxes ON TOP of DROWING in debt, thus they cant even afford to have a life and even have kids to go to these free colleges Bernie wants. Nobody is speaking for the needs of this groups when it comes to Wealth Building and issues like Internal Outsourcing Tech companies do regarding H1B employees, insane healthcare cost, etc. So they are pretty much forced to vote Democrat because they haven't come out and said they hate Black people (blatantly at least), so now these Blacks are caping for issues they truly dont even care about ie. Illegal Mexicans, LGBT, etc. Our TOLERANCE to things has the Democratic party forcing us to be activist for these things while not having anything related to us being addressed.

I see a lot of black folks now say they are "Libertarians" and while that is cool I guess their whole "sink or swim" ideology (at least from what I know about them) does not address Black peoples condition. At the end of the day Black people are in a situation where they need to be paid what they are owed to be able to even "compete" in the race of life. So all that bootstrap stuff is idiotic when nobody wants to talk about what blacks have gone through globally that nobody else has. The thing is globally everyone knows that once blacks are able to compete on a even platform nobody else stands a chance.
How you think the civil rights movement started? Dudes came back from fighting in WW2 and got treated like Kings in Europe only to come home to not even being allowed to fukk white women in peace. And to even go to war or enlist (granted there was a draft) you were probably on that conservative tip anyways.
