Now don't get me wrong. I'm glad its finally mainstream to talk about mandatory minimums and drug laws and the school to prison pipeline and all that stuff...Its exciting that something may be on the verge of taking place...
...but i'm talking to my enlightened black people here... (i.e. those with assets, something to lose, a stake in their communities, of age and experience, etc.)
If the only issue on the table for us is literally only keeping us out of prison...then we really need to reassess what it is we're looking for legislatively.
This CAN NOT be the only issue that presidential candidates have to address black people with.
Its like the left only offers, "hey, we'll lock you up less"...and thats it?
Is this really the ceiling on what black americans have on the table for debate?
It just kinda bothers me that of all the issues other groups are pressing for and lobbying for, that all blacks can ask for is to not go to jail for doing things that are still illegal and/or wrong to engage in at the end of the day.
Look around at these candidates. All i'm seeing relating to blacks is: "well they did some illegal shyt back in the day but we've locked them up enough so we'll let you go"
Thats it?
That is ALL it really comes down to.
Prison.
This is the most important issue being addressed by candidates...and its kinda demoralizing in the grand scheme of things.
