Now don't get me wrong. I'm glad its finally mainstream to talk about mandatory minimums and drug laws and the school to prison pipeline and all that stuff...Its exciting that something may be on the verge of taking place...

...but i'm talking to my enlightened black people here...:usure: (i.e. those with assets, something to lose, a stake in their communities, of age and experience, etc.)

If the only issue on the table for us is literally only keeping us out of prison...then we really need to reassess what it is we're looking for legislatively.

This CAN NOT be the only issue that presidential candidates have to address black people with.

Its like the left only offers, "hey, we'll lock you up less"...and thats it?

Is this really the ceiling on what black americans have on the table for debate?

It just kinda bothers me that of all the issues other groups are pressing for and lobbying for, that all blacks can ask for is to not go to jail for doing things that are still illegal and/or wrong to engage in at the end of the day.

Look around at these candidates. All i'm seeing relating to blacks is: "well they did some illegal shyt back in the day but we've locked them up enough so we'll let you go"

Thats it?

That is ALL it really comes down to.

Prison.

This is the most important issue being addressed by candidates...and its kinda demoralizing in the grand scheme of things.

What do you think is another big issue?
1. There aren't enough black congress members talking about illegal immigration. Its infuriating. The NAACP has these people on this intersectionality bullshyt at the expense of black workers to an almost generational drag on black employment among youth, uneducated, and low-skilled workers. Hell, even Ex-cons.

2. Education and the impacts of privatization. I'm mixed on charter schools, but i already see some communities hurting because of them.

3. Black fiscal equality in lending and housing discrimination. HUGE issue. MASSIVE.

4. Protections of voting rights

5. Protections of civil rights statutes. We really might see affirmative action disappear in a few years if we're not careful.

The problem is even with the Congressional Black Caucus, you have a God damn white man with 1/16th black blood (if any) as the chair. There's no problem with intersectionality if it only encompasses black people, as in black immigrants or second generation blacks within the CBC as members should be pushed, and pushing for more immigration for black folks. I totally agree with you, immigration and amnesty will hurt black workers the most and the worst. African Americans, I think as a people we're taught to give and to just be thankful. We are natives to this land and should not be afraid to say undocumented, illegal immigrants should not be granted amnesty, if they want to come here they should go through the immigration process, have their finger prints taken, go through interviews, go the US embassy in their own country, and then a decision be made on whether they can be granted or not. I agree with everything else.

This defeatist attitude won't get you to the round table. If you don't care, then fall back.

It's wasn't defeatist. It's more fukk Amerikkka and rethinking the game plan. I rather live in a nation where black folks are the majority majority and have the final say. We still struggling and fighting for things that we should have gotten centuries ago in this country. And it's open seasons on us 24/7, 365 .
