I think about the scene with Brian Tyree Henry just about every day.
Saw the movie today and this scene is definitely one of the most memorable. We have already gotten a glimpse of what prison life did to Fonny, but then Daniel talks about what prison did to him and the soft brooding music slowly pushing away the jazz music in the background as his trauma of dehumanisation comes back... Damn! :wow:

I didn't love it as much as I loved Moonlight because the narrative here can be a bit clumsy, but every singular scene is still a cinematic gem.

These type of movies are for non black folks to try to understand the struggle. And artsy “black struggle porn.”

Can’t watch this type of shyt anymore . Y’all got it.:manny:

Huh?

A movie from a black director based on the writing of James Baldwin is somehow for non-blacks?

I'd get it if the movie were at all exploitive, but this movie isn't that. It's a romance set against the backdrop of the struggle.

Do you not think these kind of stories should be told at all?

Everywhere...You never there.
We can't count on non blacks to support black art, breh.

Theater was FULL of white people homeboy. The support is there regardless . Just saying I’m DONE with the black struggle porn .

They should be told but it’s not really for black consumption imo.

Ah, I get it. I can understand not wanting to watch something like this when you may have to deal with it everyday.

I wish this movie was getting the awards season love instead of the sanitized, fake-serious, unearned feel-goodery of Green Book.

Green Book is a safe movie and Hollywood always loves to be safe. This movie on the other hand features dialogue in which white man is unapologetically referred to as the devil, exclamation mark. It's also a movie in which a woman is slapped by her husband with no repercussion, and has in fact the full support of everyone in the room. As poetic as the movie is at the same time, it's far too confronting for today's PC crowds.

I liked this. I found ending unsatisfying though. I was waiting for some sort of post credits scene or explanation. I guess I thought it was a true story and had to do some googling. I hear the book ending is way different

As for another above discussion i saw it in a predominantly white neighborhood and i was pretty much the only person in there that wasn't black :yeshrug:
