Soooo is it really over for web developers??

I’m still in school but if it seems like it’s a done deal and AI is gonna take over, I’m dropping out

:unimpressed:

Not tryna finish this shyt just to come out to no jobs or shytty pay smh
Not really. It's just a bad market. There are ebbs and flows in the market. This is the 2008 of developers. Tech bros are a lot like finance bros in the sense that we are compensated highly in good times, because of the instability of bad times.

Imagine if a finance bro from 2007 decided to quit because of the great recession. He'd miss out on the incredible hiring , bonuses and wage growth in 2012. Some of the wealthiest bankers, consultants, and private equity guys in 2025 were from that 2008 graduating class.

I really wish they would teach the history of computer science in undergrad courses. They waste time with that bullsht engineering ethics course, but we need history more for the new guys.

Historically, We went through a similar thing with both outsourcing and ai in the 80s computer crash and the 00s dotcom bubble crash. Before LLMs, they used to scare programmers with ibm's "expert systems" version of AI , but that all fizzled into nothingness. Before india, they used to scare entry level programmers with koreans. So you gotta look at this in a longterm perspective.

Worst case scenario, you can shelter in an adjacent field until things chill. Recall that your CS degree qualifies you not only for web dev, but also database design, embedded systems, financial analyst gigs, data science work with R or Python, cyber sec, and IT management .

If AI takes my job I’m pretty screwed cause I don’t think I could make the same amount of $$ I do, with something else

My skills are pretty limited to my job title. I suppose something in aviation, but if AI is somehow taken over my career then I assume it’s pretty much everywhere and we’re all screwed

I've been recently thinking about this and I honestly don't know. I came up doing manual labor but i'm damn near 40. HVAC was always my plan B but now I wonder if I would be comfortable with blue-collar work again. I did that shyt for 9 years with multiple jobs at the same time.

Retiring to Japan and opening up a phone booth sized restaurant to sell Michelin star Hong Kong French toast.

Sadly PM roles are gonna be some of the last jobs to get AI’d out.

Yeah that’s me.

I’d assume that if AI takes my job it’s so advanced that people are comfortable putting their lives in the hands of it, and doctors/healthcare personnel/pilots, etc would all be screwed too

I think even if A.I gets to that level of capability, we'd still want human redundancy but probably at reduced capacity.

Once Claude increases its context window its a wrrrrrrrrrap :wow:
once claude can read a full codebase integrated into your IDE, it is wrap. I don't even know how a junior developer can get a job now. Must be daunting for them.

I normally copy parts of my codebase and paste to claude, so it understands my task. I give it database schema(postgres|mysql), package.json, composer.json, let it know the framework/library i'm using. and 90% of the time it gives correct response. components, controller, methods etc If incorrect response, i just need to revise my prompt. This has cut down development time tremendously, there is now ZERO reason to even read documentation or stackoverflow. I can even copy and paste documentation into claude for it to read it. or paste a screenshot, so it can see the design. Just 3 years back, i had to work overtime and weekends if i had to deal with a difficult project. Not with claude.

AI going to make cartoonist life easier. Instead of them having to draw each individual image, they can just give it a series of start images and end images and the AI will fill in the blanks. Preserving the art style. Also for Fan fiction... all these comics without an animation, AI could potentially scan the comic and make an animation. Justice League Unlimited type shows in mere minutes :wow:
