TYRONE GA!
funny thing is you had people laughing their asses off when Martin was playing Shaneneh, but when Tyler is Madea, nikkaz get mad.

Same shyt different toilet. Funny is in the eye of the beholder.

I fukks with Kev, so let him cook. I can't hate on a successful brother even though Kev needs to tone it down sometimes.

Its a lil deeper than that, covert shyt tho. Like the stop snitchin movement :hula:

The thing Martin and all the others have in common? They have no message to give.
Madea, there is always positive messages and characters. Stuff that teaches right from wrong.
What hollywood and other outlets are doing is taking that away so the new gen will only respect ignorance

Movies, music, you name the medium. Because black folk who are not "plugged in" usually don't feel that way about Tyler P
Skinny Jean wearing c00ns who have been bamboozled into thinking self hatred is whats up
Or that if you wear a hoody, you asking for trouble :beli:

Madea >>> Big mama's house

Ehh.. nobody is saluting the box office numbers because of some eat/shyt relationship with Hart or Cube.. nor for some attempt to live vicariously thru them. It's because Hart is a comedian (that I for one find funny as fukk) who has in the past couple years delivered a smash hit romantic comedy (think like a man) and a smash hit tv series (real husbands of hollywood) that were genuinely entertaining in both quality and execution. So that he apparently has now delivered another smash hit in this buddy cop comedy (with a cinema score of a solid 'A' coming from an 80% black and hispanic box office audience) shows that movie audiences are putting their faith in him to continually come out with quality productions and he is delivering. I salute that because I do want black people to produce quality productions that black (and other) people can support.

That doesn't mean that I only want to see romantic coms, buddy cop & reality show spoofs... (shyt, from 'After Earth' to 'Luther' to 'Continuum' to 'Boardwalk Empire' to just casting blacks in empowering roles.. i've been goin on rants about more quality & diverse black representation on here for a minute now).. but I certainly will salute a highly rated black comedy that does do well, b/c there will be times that I do feel like watchin a black comedy. Or sometimes, like with 'think like a man' the girl i was with wanted to see it and i ended up being able to enjoy it too. So its good to kno that Hart is putting out quality work that's well received for the most part (i don't expect everyone to like it) b/c i kno i can (still) go to his stuff whenever i do want my comedic fix.

Doesn't mean I aint rooting for the Jaden Smiths, Michael B Jordans, John Boyegas, Chadwick Boseman's & Anthony Mackies to break through in the other genres of cinema

I feel all of that breh but like I said, I don't find him funny at least consistently funny. There are times when he hits me and others when he doesn't, so it is what it is when it comes to that. I don't begrudge any brother for being successful but of course I knew the movie would do well but its just not the type of thing that I fukk with and I feel like its possible to salute something for being successful but also not being a fan of it. I can look at its impact for us as a people but also look at it as a movie objectively and state my feelings on it

All well and good. I was just addressing the part you said earlier about not caring that the movie did well b/c you aint related to them/dont shyt what they eat; which almost seemed like u were sending subliminals at those of us who had just saluted his box office numbers exceeding expectations, like we were doing so for no other reason but to live vicariously through him on some stan shyt. Wanted to clear that up just in case.

But if that wasn't the case, then I think we're on the same page with everything else generally speaking.

Not a shot at all, I'm just not the saluting type for stuff I don't feel passionate about but I understand why you or anyone else is passionate about it. Like I said, good for him and good for Cube..actually great for Cube because he produced this, but I just want to see different type of shyt. When we have hit movies, its always the same shyt...constantly. We'll be quick to see Ride Along, the latest Madea flick, or anything because of an all black cast but won't see 12 Years a Slave and champion that. And I'm not talking about you or anyone on here but "we" in a general sense of black people.

A super okay movie

I got suckered into goin cuz the promo was good

All the good jokes were in the trailers and Kev tried skate from comedy to drama too much

And they wrote his character too annoying

But, what he did...

As Omar, at the end was some the best comedy I've seen in a movie  THAT was 5/5

 When he almost got away with it and came back

It was a cute little date move, had me chuckling sometimes and i didnt really mind how derivative it was. My girl liked it, i laughed a little bit, and thats all i ask for :manny:
Yea, dudes up here expecting rapper Ice Cube to produce a mind bending psychological epic.

They must have not seen the lead actors nor the trailers.

Dude gotta stop expecting everything out of everyone

Its a buddy cop movie staring ice cube and kevin hart and they're expecting it to be harlem nights 2.0 but also have no bafoonery and give you a message and have 5 star acting in it :heh:

Both hart and cube stayed in their lane for this flick and it works because of it

nikka, fukk 12yrs a slave. Why the fukk would I want to champion a movie about a free blackman getting abducted and sold into slavery? :wtf:
Cuz it involves evil white people enslaving black people (like they do today in the penal system) so its supposed to be this must see movie that black people run to the theaters to see?
shyt, my first cuzzo just finished a 12yr stint... in the joint. Had a domestic, but he had backup time
What for? Well, he stole a moped and had an aggravated assault charge.

But 12yrs for all that :scusthov:

When are you gonna wake up and realize that Black People are more than just SLAVES, BASKETBALL PLAYERS, RAPPERS, TRUMPET PLAYERS/etc.

Cuz there is TOO MUCH BLACK HISTORY that hasn't even been sniffed yet. NO, I will not run to watch 12yrs a slave. I'll watch it eventually. But its been sitting here collecting e-dust for months...

Breh my point is, its an important film about a time that many of us should know about because its our history. Regardless of what you think of it, its an important flick. And that's my point. It's not about championing it as much as its about the same type of support that we rant and rave about giving Cube and Kevin Hart and Tim Story. This was a movie staring a black man directed by a black man about black history and it has something to say. I'm not saying every flick has to have something to say, because I love A LOT of movies that say jack shyt but if we're going to big up one movie and support it because there are black people in it, then we should do it equally, not just when its a comedy or playing it safe

Movie would've been better if it was serious and less comedy. Like Bad Boys was more serious than comedy. It as if Kevin Hart was trying too hard to be funny and just came off as annoying.

Glad I saw it free online instead of paying to go see it. :yeshrug:

Slap stick comedy or overly foolish comedy is more annoying than funny. Kind of lazy comedy if you ask me. Because anyone can do slap stick or act a fool.
