I said it in another thread but I thought the movie was

Had moments that I laughed but overall it just didn't work for me and I was looking forward to it. It sucks seeing the whole theater have a good time and I'm sitting there with a slight smile, a chuckle or just no laughing at all. Good for Cube and Kevin but what they eat don't make me shyt and my last name is Jackson or Hart so how much money it made is :manny:. Glad people liked it but just wasn't my thing. Especially when the audience was laughing at bits from trailers as if it was the first time seeing them. In EVERY movie I see that shyt confuses me but again, glad some of you cats liked it. I only paid $2 for it so I can't be too mad. :smugdraper:

there this thing about supporting black movies so more black movies can be made and Hollywood wont feel hesitant about putting out the stuff we really want to see but like you said :manny:

Yeah I understand that and trust me breh, I'm with you but I also am not going to support something JUST because its got black people in it, no matter how much I think we don't get a fair shot in Hollywood. I'll be damned if I'm going to see Haunted House 2 just to support our cause. Especially because Hollywood is all about follow the leader; if you go out and support Ride Along you get more Ride Alongs. I want to see a black film done with the same level of dialogue, story, acting and directing as a normal film. I don't want just run of the mill stuff that we've been seeing since the 2000s and Hollywood, RIGHT NOW, is looking for the next Ride Along type shyt as opposed to looking to put us in the next American Hustle or Wolf of Wall Street or other critically acclaimed Oscar nominated flick. Why can't there be a black movie with the wit and intelligence of a Woody Allen flick or Steven Soderbergh flick. Or the action of a Spielberg or JJ Abrams. Tim Story directed this man, Tim Fantastic Four Story. Imagine if you had a director with his own style, vision, and character to bring to this?

Difference is, Martin is funny. The joke of him pushing his girl away and falling into his coffee table isn't. I can watch Martin and Pam crack jokes on each other all day and they are often the same damn jokes. I can hear Cole say Rent em Spoons all day too but again, its funny. :manny:

The type of movie you ask for are out there...straight to DVD. We dont need another Woody, we need to establish our own identify that cant compare to anything.

It's all subjective, everybody doesn't think Martin is funny. Just like a lot of people think the movie is so :manny:

You're right and we won't get there by hiring journeymen directors to create set dressing for *insert straight man* and *insert hot comedian who doesn't make jokes as much as he just acts crazy* Look at 48 hours and what Eddie did. He wasn't getting laughs because he was Eddie Murphy, he got laughs because he made jokes and had great dialogue to go along with the parts where he would act a little wild

Breh, humor is subjective. I'm saying that I don't find him tossing his chick and falling over funny more than once. It's a one note joke that's funny maybe after the first time I saw the trailer but I don't see it being that funny after seeing it so many times before. If you disagree cool but it's going to be really tough for us to argue whats funny and whats not so how about we just agree to disagree

Yeah I know Eddie has been trash for a decade plus but I used him as an example since he's in a classic buddy cop movie and one that Cube and Kevin cited as an influence on this movie so it just popped in my head. Plus, he was the hot comedian at the time, not just hot black comedian but THE comedian.

Ehh.. nobody is saluting the box office numbers because of some eat/shyt relationship with Hart or Cube.. nor for some attempt to live vicariously thru them. It's because Hart is a comedian (that I for one find funny as fukk) who has in the past couple years delivered a smash hit romantic comedy (think like a man) and a smash hit tv series (real husbands of hollywood) that were genuinely entertaining in both quality and execution. So that he apparently has now delivered another smash hit in this buddy cop comedy (with a cinema score of a solid 'A' coming from an 80% black and hispanic box office audience) shows that movie audiences are putting their faith in him to continually come out with quality productions and he is delivering. I salute that because I do want black people to produce quality productions that black (and other) people can support.

That doesn't mean that I only want to see romantic coms, buddy cop & reality show spoofs... (shyt, from 'After Earth' to 'Luther' to 'Continuum' to 'Boardwalk Empire' to just casting blacks in empowering roles.. i've been goin on rants about more quality & diverse black representation on here for a minute now).. but I certainly will salute a highly rated black comedy that does do well, b/c there will be times that I do feel like watchin a black comedy. Or sometimes, like with 'think like a man' the girl i was with wanted to see it and i ended up being able to enjoy it too. So its good to kno that Hart is putting out quality work that's well received for the most part (i don't expect everyone to like it) b/c i kno i can (still) go to his stuff whenever i do want my comedic fix.

Doesn't mean I aint rooting for the Jaden Smiths, Michael B Jordans, John Boyegas, Chadwick Boseman's & Anthony Mackies to break through in the other genres of cinema
