It's called an ideology although Spaniards/Portguese may have been more willing to mix with the indigenous and slave population, they still looked at them as lesser. If anything, eugenics made American whites (Anglos) change their ideology from wanting to breed slaves to controlling the black population (through dangerous birth control methods and even performing "Mississippi appendectomies"
). However, Spaniards/Portugese were mixing with the intent of erasing blackness. This ideology is still prevalent today, with the darkest Latinos wanting to give a better life to their children by procreating with whites, and conversely with whites being implicit in wanting to erase the black population.
