The entire setup is fake as hell. Trying to tap dance for a job even though you're overqualified. :dahell:

I just had a job interview with two white women (in Atlanta) for a marketing position for a professional association. I was the first interview (from what they said)... and received a "position filled" email in less than 24 hours :sadbron: :what: :birdman:

Is it me or are they only hiring the Black dudes that are feminine or wont speak their minds or look like the cornball type?

I have a degree and a father so im not gonna be going into interviews flimsy and on some thankya suh to be here-type shyt

Read my thread on job searching in HL. You may have to search for it.

Marketing in ATL will be tough. You're probably gonna have to move up to cold ass NYC if you want more opportunities and less discrimination.

ATL is a lot of us but still a lot of racism and discrimination compared to up here.

Long story short though: Often it's not you, it's them. I am sure being masculine (and not gay/effeminate) works against you in that area. I know it does here to a certain degree too. Depends how your vibe comes across. If you seem open minded they may look past it though.

It's truly demeaning when you're smarter than the person interviewing you. NOTHING is more demeaning than that shyt.
why do ppl think this way?
most interviewers really aren't the smartest. They are usually HR dudes that focus on personnel and shyt.
They would do the interviews usually with a specialist in the room for clarification or for more input or to listen. But the HR department usually doesn't know shyt about the technical side of most ppls jobs.

why would that be demeaning? sell yourself by being professional and asking the right questions and answering professionally.

So many insecure dudes on here catching feelins

Oh and another thing...a lot of you bruhs mentioning and suggesting to act effeminate, docile and have that bubbly higher pitched voice.

U better watch out for that...because the recruiter and/or hiring manager may not agree with the gay lifestyle and could be conservative and hate phags just as much as some on this website. So I wouldn't suggest to act like a bubbly sissy but still be friendly, personable and approachable. Don't have a nasty attitude and be abrasive and super aggressive.

I would never come in acting like I'm gay...that's going way over board :mjlol:

But you gotta quickly assess the environment and figure out what kind of guy they would mesh well with and try to align yourself with that. Job interviews are just you putting on a front to put forth the most marketable version of yourself. Sometimes that version isn't the real you, but fukk them...they don't need to know that.

I remember I applied to work at zumiez in 2011.

Skateboarded for 20+ years at that point, knowledgeable in fashion and streetwear, knew every brand in that store. And to top it off i could even set up a complete skateboard in less than 15 minutes.

Didnt get a call back.

I go in there the next week and its filled with white people who legit had no clue of what anything was in the store. No knowledge of the brands. No knowledge of anything related to that store...and to top it off the had people that didnt know what they were doing. But cause they were white guess it was alright.
:mjpls:

Ive been in way too many situations where i was applying for work and knew too much and had too much drive and they were intimidated by it.

This is why at 31 im disgusted with the job market for black people...why i will never beg anyone foe a job again...and why i work for myself. I have no choice at this point. Like i just got sick and tired of "playing the game" and it ended up going nowhere and playing by their rules. fukk their rules. And their games. Ill make my own.

After interviewing for many of "prospective employers" in the world of finance for over a decade I can tell you the following:

Before your interview, read as many bio's on linked in and do extensive research on the company beyond what you find on google. Glassdoor should be your entry point on gaining insight to the company's inner workings. Most hiring managers want a drone, who is healthy and will count as a head and wont ruffle any feathers.

Also, for those with a lot of experience in their fields beware of a lot of those Phantom interviews with competitors in your field. Those are the interviews where they call you and have you interview for hours on end with hiring managers, have them fluff your head and ass up to the high heavens only to receive zero feedback or interest in the upcoming days. Those kinds of interviews are scheduled to pick your brain on what you know so they can get the scoop.

I have disagree with the whole gay black guys get jobs. At least in my experience, the last interview I had was a group interview, anyway this black gay dude comes in, dressed conservative, but his voice (:francis:)

Faggy gay and just being extra with it. It was just too much.

Maybe 5 years ago, when gay was "in", gay brehs were eating I guess, but now it is like "Oh ok your gay, (we filled our gay quota a couple of years ago) what are your qualifications?"
This is everywhere in NyC.

this is why i threw away all my
resumes :ehh:

i'm not tap dancing brehs fukk that
:dame:
When I started my store last year i threw out all of my uncomfortable ass dress clothes.

The feeling of making money from something you made yourself. I went from employee to manager to storeowner instantly...it was alot of responsibility but i am glad i handled it beautifully. I had to do it for myself. I used $2000 i made from Aflac to produce the gear rent out the space and make it a retail spot. Dealt with employees and team building. Dealt with retail for the first time ever. It was awesome.

No one was gonna give me these opportunities...i had to make them. And also...i dont care to build other peoples dreams and make rich people richer. And im not a team player unless its people i give a fukk about.

My problem was i let society's standard of success define me and I was chasing it. I thought i landed that dream job last year with Aflac....makkng 6 figures...living the life i always dreamed of.

I didnt get that at all and it made me so miserable and angry....ive never been that miserable in my whole life.

:martin:

At the end of the day...my wellbeing mentally and physically is worth more than trying to pursue some bullshyt career that im not into. I realized my talents and creativity could make money for other people but i decide to use that for my own gain.

Yup....same here.....and the sad part is.....then when u end up in a low wage job .....ppl will judge u n shyt like you're a loser when u have no control over being unfairly discriminated against.....like at my old retail job...I had to deal with stuck up a$$holes that thought they were better then me, even tho I'm way more skilled and intelligent.... It made me sick to my stomach that I'm under some loser CAC making 9 dollars an hr, all because cacs didn't want to give a BM a fair shot...then my parents will tell me... "Well stick it out, all jobs are bad" man fukk that....I said fukk that shyt, I rather die then subscribe to that mindset

These cacs r stupid tho, because by black balling blacks they're going to make us great, because its going to make is push ourselves to become great at what we do and become independent... Alotta black millennials r going to to really wake up in the next few years and compete with cacs...all that begging is about to cease. Me personally, I always try to compete, black ppl gotta be OD competitive... U gotta want to destroy your competition... Because we don't have a choice, me personally don't have a plan B...it's all or nothing at this point...so I got war on my mind

We need to talk one of these days, I know a breh who skates and is 27 this year. He got fired from Zumiez because he kept showing up late and was not motivated enough. He felt discriminated against and this caused him to slack at his job overall. So it wasn't just the lateness but they didn't think he was a "good fit" anymore.

I tell him all the time look into getting your own skateshop if you are serious. Or get a real job. Either way you gotta do something you just can't sit on your ass and complain sisters are curving you when you making minimum wage in NYC willingly at this age. Dude is too old to be having these theatrics. Everyone's goal on this board should be feast or famine if you're an entrepreneur do or die. And if you take the corporate route, aim to make at least 75k in the burbs or 100k in a major city by the age of 30.

We got to start setting some sort of concrete goals and work towards achieving.

You did it by my guidebook, you used money from the Man to start your own shyt.

This is what other cultures are doing and exceeding far beyond us. Sacrifice will be needed, but make the smarter sacrifice of saving money to seed your start-up without having to worry about bills being paid. Build your rep as an Independent contractor in side consulting gigs while comfortable at a 9-5 and not worrying about putting food in your mouth or feeding your kids if you got any.

I rather die then subscribe to that mindset

This is understandable for you to have this attitude before you joined the Coli, and even before you seen my posts

But you 3 years in still talking this jimmity jammy shyt

The point is you don't have to die it's not that drastic....yet

Follow my posts on the subject and maybe you will learn something you are too hard headed and don't listen.

#1 - Save up money and get the fukk out of Buffalo. Hit me up after you complete that step. And stop making threads on this shyt too till you do it.

I'm trying to lead these young fools out the desert and they hard knuckle headed won't listen to reason :ohlawd:

That's only for BS first jobs out of school that ain't even related to your major and you're underemployed.

Master python and joomla and you will be able to show them why they need you, not the other way around. Learn agile and scrum project management techniques. Get a Six Sigma Cert. Get the proper creds and write up programs or business plans, develop apps that solve problems etc. Visualize data and show BI projects. The works. Slap that down on their desk (or via e-mail) and you've got the job. Let your work and creations speak for themselves.

That groveling shyt is for young cats that have no real work skills and haven't identified a growing niche field with high demand.
