I want him to be great but he’s unproven. That’s where Bellinger comes in. If the Martian doesn’t pan out, he’s the centerfielder. If he does, Bellinger moves to first base.

They shouldn’t even have to spend like the boss did to contend. If they could just develop their own players, they could contend on barely $200 million probably. Look at Atlanta for an example. Meanwhile this front office and analytics department outside of Judge have to point to Brett Gardner as the 2nd best player drafted and developed by them since before the home run chase of Big Mac and Sammy (& Griffey before he tailed off late in the season). Hal would be saving money if he’d just put in the work to employ a competent front office and he’s so clueless that it’s probably never dawned on him.
