Along with the over-emphasis on analytics, Cashman lost his way from all the principles of putting together a team that he’d been taught by Gene Michael. In particular: Left-handed hitting for Yankee Stadium, disciplined, selective hitters with high on-base percentage, above average defense at every position, strong on fundamentals. The 2023 Yankees are none of those things. Playing most of the season with only one left-handed hitter in the lineup, they rank 26th in the majors in on-base percentage, next-to-last in hits and batting average (.228), last in doubles, 25th in run scoring percentage and are tied for the fifth most runners thrown out on the bases (14).

*thinks about how the 2021 squad was last in doubles, didn’t have a catcher, left fielder, centerfielder, or a shortstop, was planning on having 3 projected starters who were coming off 2 year absences with injuries to their throwing arms, had 0 lefty batters on the opening day roster, were among the worst hitting teams with men on, were the most strikeout prone Yankees team ever or close to it, were close to last in the majors in steals, had i think the 5th most 9th inning runs allowed, were one of the worst fielding teams in baseball, had the most outs on the bases, had the most outs at home plate, had the most double plays grounded into, and the most double plays grounded into with the bases loaded among other bad stats that I don’t know and yet the only person held accountable was the third base coach*

Something is up with Reddit now where if you share a link it doesn’t preview it on here.

There’s a thread that says

“The current qualifying player with the fewest AB per HR in 2023 is Shohei Ohtani at 11.2. Aaron Judge has hit a HR every 9.3 AB.”
