This is why Cashman/Hal are probably always :smugfavre: about the Yankees chances every year imo, Yankees are always going to be a top end team in the AL as long as they have a good bullpen, solid starting pitching, Judge in his prime with some guys who have power. Sure, that’s been a problem in October, but they know they will get there more than likely every year since 2016.

Plus with the new wild card changes even more teams get in now

“The Yankees are fully supportive of Major League Baseball’s investigative process and the disciplinary action applied to Jimmy Cordero,” the statement reads. “There is no justification for domestic violence, and we stand with the objectives, standards and enforcement of MLB’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy.

it's definitely DV.

Anything else and a suspension is the least of his problems

Looking at Anthony Volpe's metrics, there's still a lot to like about his prospects as a major league hitter.

He makes hard contact. He doesn't drive balls into the ground. And he walks a good amount.
He's been somewhat unlucky on his BABIP but it's not what's driving his numbers down.

The possible issue is that he's either thinking too much or chasing pitches and getting in bad hitters counts...which may be why his K rate is so high.

It's somewhat baffling that his numbers are absolutely horrible against LHP. That's where RHB should shine the most.

What he should do, for the moment anyway, is emulate his hero Derek Jeter and try to go the other way. Or at least up the middle/right-center. Just to re-calibrate himself. Go up there and be aggressive early in the count, but try to hit it to right. Trust his bat and gain some confidence, rather than trying to work the count only to find yourself chasing breaking balls out of the zone and MAYBE getting the occasional walk.

Not counting tonight, Volpe has seen an 0-1 count 121 times. By far the most of any count. Get up there and be aggressive, kid. They are NOT pitching around you.
Since June 8:

.316/.373/.526

Still has a 25% K rate, which is not ideal.
But the 8.3% BB rate is nice to see.

I wouldn’t say he’s exactly turned a corner. But he got hot and his confidence has to be up right now.

I don’t expect a .900 OPS the rest of the way, but if Volpe can cut down the strikeouts in the 2nd half, maybe OPS somewhere in the .750 to .775 range, I’ll be a lot happier about his future.

Estevan Florial put up almost a 20/20 first half but the guy who traded for Joey Gallo thinks he strikes out too much :mjcry:
Strikeouts are a concern when the batter doesn’t get on base and doesn’t make hard contact.

But Florial has 45 walks in 65 minor league games this year.

He doesn’t have Elly de la Cruz ceiling but given how bad Yankees outfielders have been be absolutely deserves another shot at sticking with the major league club.

There’s a bit of a logjam with Yankees outfielders but that’s their own fault.

They treat Florial like he's gonna cost the team games just by being there. It's dumb.
