I used to think Obama resentment birthed MAGA, but was it backlash to Barry Bonds?

Exactly what I was thinking. Bonds didn't start it, but the rhetoric around black athletes especially on sports media, sports radio in particular ratcheted up the animosity tremendously.

I lived in Philly when McNabb was the Eagles Quarterback, and even when he perennially took the Eagles to the NFC championship, a large part of the Eagles white fan base in Philadelphia, I won't say most, but a very large part of the white fan base consistently fired unfair and inaccurate criticism towards him. Most of it was lead by WIP 610 and the 98% white broadcasters. From jump its like they had an agenda against dude. It was flat out irrational, because dude was a top 5 Quarterback his first 5-6 years in the league.
Limbaugh and the other right wing pundits went at McNabb heavy back then.

White ppl feel they can do everything better than black ppl. And they hate that they can’t.

trump hated the fact that Obama was better than him in every way. He felt like he could do better than Obama and was proven grossly wrong. That’s why trumpers say dumbass shyt like Obama is the worst president we’ve ever had in the history of the us.

I’m 100% sure Trump thought he was gonna “white man” his way through being a two term president off of “cmon it’s me” type of attitude and not having to take ANYTHING seriously. He relied on every white person being on code and co0ns and dumb nikkas blinded by the old image of trump.

People keep trying to dig deep to where MAGA came from. It's been here. It's the segment of the party that the mainstream Republicans didn't fukk with, but also wouldn't disavow. Allowed just enough crazy to happen to keep them at bay. This is a monster they and conservative media created. Donald Trump is an oafish buffoon, but he's not a fukking idiot. He said years ago that he could run as a Republican and do very well. And you best believe, in true bully that's never been checked, Obama roasting him at the White House Correspondents Dinner, set him the fukk off. A bully can give shyt but can't take it. People said for years what conservative media was peddling, and what these Republican elected officials allowed, was a powder keg just waiting to go off. Now they can't control their monster, and they are afraid of their base. And not politically.

That's the worst part about it. They are afraid of their base, but they still need said segment of the base going forward. That's why they said just enough to condemn Trumps actions after the Capitol Hill incident, but not go through with the convict and piss off their voter base.

The most ironic part about the entire situation is that Meghan McCain has essentially become the segment of the Republican/MAGA base that her father wanted no part of acknowledging years prior.

If we're being real, it's neither Barack Obama, or Barry Bonds.

It's just resentment towards black people in general. Sometimes the obvious answer is the correct one brehs.
Eh,

The central plot behind the rise of Trumpism was white resentment and fear mongering of Obama. They used his name for every type of grievance they could come up with. And it worked like a charm. Any political expert would tell you this and a trip down conservative media archives would show this.

Its why even when he was out of office and chillin, Trump and MAGA trash was on his dikk mentioning Obama name a million times. They had to keep the fake outrage and resentment up.

You don't get MAGA at that high of a level without President Obama. Black people were a part of the receipe but he was the main ingredient due.

Obama winning ---> Tea Party Republicans ---> Tea party politicians ---> Maga and Donald Trump

Yea the tea party "patriots" morphed into birthers who morphed into MAGA. Trump would have 0% chance to be president if Obama wasn't there. Jon Stewart opened up for Chappelle at a show i saw and he stated it perfectly

The pendulum usually swings back and forth from left to right, Dem to Republican, but this time because there was a black president the pendulum swung way more to the right as a over correction, the mere fact that a half black President even entered the white house was enough to steer 75 million cacs to the extreme far right as a response

Right, but ultimately the issue with Obama is that in their minds, somehow shyt got so fukked up that a black person was in power. Because ultimately, he didn't usher in the radical change that people believed he would, and didn't even inspire a new more aggressively left leaning generation of politicians, either. Ironically, it was their own reaction to Obama that did, but that's a separate discussion. And even better, a lot of the exact same flaws they saw in him suddenly didn't matter eight years later when Trump showed up.

Sometimes, racist folks just gonna be racist, breh. It's one of the absolute dumbest things that is humans are capable of, and somehow we continue to try to add far more intelligent justifications to it than it deserves.

yeah, i'm not seeing this barry bonds connection. And i was very aware of what was going on with baseball around the time Mcquire/Sosa and Bonds were all going crazy. The rise of this Maga shyt started with the election of Obama. If yall can remember, before Obama got elected the internet was very self segregated. Every different group had their own little corner of the internet. Everything from porn, to music, to sports, racists had their own corner and there wasn't alot of "invading" of other spaces. Once Obama got elected, he kind of came out of nowhere in the eyes of white people. A lot of white folks thought Obama was some secret plan that black people orchestrated on some secret website. That's when you started seeing the racists leave places like st0rmfr0nt and "invade" facebook, twitter, etc...

It actually started before he became president when he won Iowa and pissed off the Clinton's. Hillary started the birthed question that Trump piggy backed on to, then came out with this commercial

Since that didn't work they dug this old video up remember this one

Yeah that got the white nationalist attention so they started looking for everything that's when the birther shyt really took off then when he won the nomination Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground shows up to one of his campaign stops and McCain and Palin, FOX, all these right wing sites and blogs pounced on it facebook and youtube was crawling with misinformation.

All that happened before he won. So when he won they quickly formed the Tea Party backed by the Koch brothers. Obama just having a legit shot at the presidency brought the white nationalists out.

In 2008 during the summer of Obama that's when the DOJ report on white nationalist infiltration came out again.

People don’t acknowledge the role social media played. Social media rose to what it is under Obama. Before then, we didn’t have access to people’s personal thoughts and feelings, and couldn’t easily speak to people with similar beliefs. White people felt comfortable saying things they couldn’t say before because of political correctness. When we started fighting back, and getting them fired, it’s “Why is it all of a sudden racist?” It was always racist, we just weren’t there to hear it.

Add black people feeling more confident with the image of a black President, and white people hate when we feel good about ourselves. Plus, social media bots put out fake tweets instigating and stoking fires, and YouTube personalities gained more popularity.
