I understand why OGs praise 90s hip hop as much as they do

Apart from nothing touching TM101, you made some valid points about the 90’s,

it was more about the quality and authenticity of the music then, now it’s just a circus of goofballs that appeal to a circus of goofballs

There used to be a pride and quality to this music but that seems to have been mainly lost on this generation, it’s absurd and laughable now with all the ridiculousness.

We are in the era where rappers only "get on" for their shenanigans on social media - Pure attention whores that try to out do each other with that "Hey look at me" on Twitter or Instagram.
That is why ever rapper that comes out needs more tattoos, more crayalo infused dreads and more gay mannerisms than the last one - that is actually feminine behavior.
This all stems from a generation or two being raised by single mothers....the males take on the mannerisms of the only parent around. Noone taught them how to be men.

You can see it in the music and their antics to get as much attention as possible on them, not their music.

i disagree
im coming from the underground perspective tho.

Not much in the 90s underground is touching some of the more dope stuff coming out of the dump series imo.

rap has evolved in the underground and thats where i lay my ears at.

ofcourse the 90s mainstream >>> now mainstream, but i dont really like any of the shyt thats popular now or back then.

The underground? Come on man, that shyt is filled with goofy ass whiteboys with names like "Biology" and "Abilities"...corny as hell. Point me to some dope underground artist that are not from the good part of town with two parents that have a real good marriage.

as much as I liked T-Pain, he was the beginning of the rap downfall....even tho he wasnt really popular for being a rapper.

The auto-tune era started the end.

Now we're left with bright spots like Kendrick, Cole, Fabolous(for me), and afew others

I'm from the 90s the kids are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more wild with it now:

Diss record on top of the OPP's grave :bryan:

that era had an aura, now the culture is superficial and a bit weird but i aint hating

There are way more rappers now and way more avenues to consume rap. This means there are more dope rappers and more trash rappers. I wouldn't say the best 3 rappers of this era matches the best 3 rappers of the 90s but social media has stripped the aura that used to surround these mythical figures. I think there is more good rap now than ever. Maybe not more classics though.

These demographics have suffered the most from social media:
-women
-tough guys
-politicians
-athletes
-musicians

Seeing memes of people for half the year takes away their "cool" factor. So when you hear great music the feeling from the artist doesn't grab the same way it used to.

arent they both dead now? :gucci:

yeah, its way more lit now:mjgrin:

The gulliest thing I remember close to this was Bernard Hopkins stomping on the Puerto Rican flag in Puerto Rico. When you make a video on somebody's grave you basically have to go. :francis:

I live the 90s era. U grew up in that time. I don't hate these new dudes, they just ain't saying shut worth listening to. For the most part.

shyt I don't even need to listen to any new music. I just go back and listen to the 100s of albums I love from the 90s. It's never ending. I'm good on rap albums for life.

THE MOST OUTTER REACHES OF THE COSMOS
Preface: I used og instead of old head cause that seems to carry negative connotations lol, and it deads any serious convos cause everybody's on the defensive.

Also, while I think it can be objectively argued that the 90s were indeed the GOAT decade , it's by no means my favorite. I was raised on that early 2000s shyt so, nothing from any Era is gne ever touch that music. For example, no album from the 90s is fukkin wit Thug Motivation 101 imo. :hubie:

With that out the way, the reason I think that Era gets all the adoration and respect it deserves is because the rappers, and culture as a whole, were really wit the shyts back then when u really think about it. Meaning they were just as pro black as they wanted to be. From the attire

........ on down to the real nikkas they bigged up their bars.

"Indeed we like Khalid Muhammad MCs make me vomit; I get controversial..."
-Fugees (How many mics)

"Bang bang, boom boom, ping ping I'm the black
Whiteboys got a magazine and don't know how to act
I'll attack and make u vomit
Down wit Khalid Abdul Muhammad. "

-Scarface (Hand of the Dead Body ft Ice Cube)

Hell, even SHAQ was wit it :bryan:
"Everybody said I got fat, yep, so did my wallet
Still ripping rhymes, dropping bomb like Khalid Muhammad. "

-Def Jef on Shaq's I Know I got skillz

And then u got songs like this :
:bryan::bryan::bryan:

Ice Cube's 'True to the Game' video:

15245983612513694.gif

:obama:

And then you had nikkas like Brand Nubian, Public Enemy, KRS-one , X-Clan and many many more.

And if that was too preachy for the nikkas in the street, you had Makaveli himself.
It's my theory that bruh was playing the whole thug role up to gain the influence of them folks in the mud and then drop that black knowledge on em in a way that's digestible without being corny wit it.

220px-2Pac_Makaveli-The_Don_Killuminati_front.jpg

The gems spit on this joint, :wow:

In conclusion, as much as I LOVED the early 2000s, that was the beginning of the buffoonery. nikkas was off that shyt with real substance and it was all about flash and flossing. We as a whole lost that rebellious spirit (cause m'fers would've popped off fr back then) and we've only become more docile as the years pass. And are now in an Era where weirdos like this :
tekashi69.png

:mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

And jew simps like this :
3A98E84100000578-3955846-image-m-124_1479698922080.jpg

:mjlol:

And homos like this:

980x.jpg

Are wats moving needle.

So let's pour out a lil liquor for the 90s, the last real Era.

:mjcry:

But them 80’s!:blessed: U would’ve had to be there and witnessed it to understand! Never will be an era like it!:sas1:
Much respect to u for the acknowledgement of previous decades of hiphop and it’s history. It’s really needed! RESPECT AND BLESSINGS.U A ILL nikka!:salute:
