No the difference is Brady wasn't good enough to even be a backup in his 1st season. He was 4th on the depth chart in 2000.

2001 (when he started ) was his second season.

This is the first year his OL isn't absolute trash and he has a run game to help out. Having one of his best years because he's not fearing for his life on every snap. As for his receivers. Imagine him with a true #1 WR like a Julio, AJ or Antonio.
