smh, nipsey never had next. this nikka never had a buzz like kendrick lamar, fukking 2 chainz or big sean. i don't know why anyone would think he was gonna blow.
Hussle in the House was HUGE out west.... Kendrick was still K Dot and sounding like he needed some vicks vapor rub on Jay Rock mixtapes.
LA is a very strange place as far as music goes, Power doesn't play local shyt...and our rappers have big followings, and nobody past Phoenix would even know unless they were really following shyt.
Hussle in the House was that undeniable song that let everyone out West know he was next...that kriss kross sample got flipped and on some gangsta shyt was
Think it prolly mostly boils down to him being perceived as more your typical 90s style west coast gangsta rapper and that not being what's popping at the moment...the same way dudes like glass malone and jay rock never really did what they were expected to at one time...the "new west" movement took a lil bit a different approach...kendrick ended up putting tde on where jay rock had failed to do previously.despite getting a major look first ....tyga and yg had that new west coast party music sound (don't know if.it's a name for it) and blew off that...nipsey didn't really fit into any of those lanes....
The reason that Jay Rock and Glasses never took off like that, is cause they just didn't really have a real marketable image to them.. yeah they can rap, they're from the hood... but they dont really have that appeal to make them a star.
Nipsey didn't blow cause Epic fukked up, and he lost all pull to make an industry move.... not cause he reminds people of Snoop too much.
It's kind of a circular argument saying the same thing...you say Epic fukked up...I'm saying the reason they fukked is because it ain't the easiest thing in the world breaking a west coast gangsta rapper in this current moment in music...Epic couldn't do it with Nipsey...Warner couldn't do it with Jay Rock...Cash Money couldn't do it with Glasses
Because hip hop fans for the most part are stupid and feel they can only support 1 artist or team at a time.. SMH! Meanwhile the average pop fan has about 10-15 various artist they support as a whole...
TDE happened
likes of J Cole and Kendrick and a new generation of lyricism is at full swing.
