You keep forgetting they don’t WANT household names for these main roles because they want to lock them into 7-10 picture deals. Better for the actor to blow up off an MCU film and then have them locked in on the cheap for a decade then they blow up outside of Marvel and have any type of real leverage
There is none. There isn't no appetite for martial arts films over there right now. Actors who would've taken action roles back in the day can make more money doing reality tv and game shows now or they just take TV roles. It's just easier money.
Honestly, that might backfire on them. Chinese people want big stars and recognizable names in their movies.

Chinese media/government been cancelling actors, musicians, streaming platforms and companies left right and center in the past month for a variety of reasons. If they casted an Indonesian guy as the lead, guaranteed they would've banned the film immediately

Name one. Name one actor who wouldve done martial arts action movies back in the day that is doing reality tv or game shows.Or one doing tv shows that would turn down a movie deal.
Max Zhang, who did the Grandmaster and Ip Man movies (Ip Man 3, and the spin off with Tony Jaa). He's in a reality tv show now where he's trying to be part of a boy band.

I’m not one to get all offensive over not “sticking to the script.” Kingpin a white dude, but MCD played him in the OG movie. But in this day and age people take shyt too serious.
I just woulda preferred a proper martial artists actor to play him. The dude that got the part looks like he should be in a buffet line while he’s on lunch from his IT job.
Like I said, Donnie Yen woulda been a better fit. They had old RDJ play Iron Man. Why can’t Donnie get some shine?
