yeah he's dope I've had his records for decades, but I never had this one. Thanks. He and Chick Correa are very similar. Dig through Chick's discography and it's mostly music like this starting in the 70s.
I was thinking Herbie Hancock in Japan or something haha but Chick Correa is on point too

I like sampling, but I don't understand why brehs don't create their OWN samples...stop letting these people Tax you...

You like a patti Labelle/Anita Baker line and want to sample it? Get a chick from around the way who's voice sounds similar to sang something similar...shyt will sound Even better and give off a nastalgic feel, but be totally original .

I mean breh... There's a reason why it's hard to duplicate Patti Labelle.

And correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Quik &/or Dre find samples, then have a band recreate them? I still think you need to pay of the OG artist/label

Not the label, they just have to pay a mechanical licensing fee that's usually pretty low relatively speaking and share a writing credit with the original artist so they get a cut of the royalties. With a sample you're paying for the actual recording of the song that's owned by the label while with a cover you're just replaying the sheet music which falls under different rights. The owner of a recording can charge whatever the fukk they want while with covers you're just paying their publishing company to be able to distribute your performance of the music.

A lot of Kanye's "samples" are actually remakes done by Ken Lewis. If he can't clear something he just goes to him

Koala is that powerful? You can play keys and stuff in there or do you use other apps for sounds?

I have sampletank and a few synth ones but it's been so long lol.

All that requires session musicians, singers, a recording studio, an engineer, mics, etcs. A sample might have vocals and several instruments and you'd be spending a bunch of money to remake it.

Unless you're a professional producer you don't have access to all that.

You can't just recreate a sample 1 to 1. It's not going to sound the same and the sound in the sample might be exactly what you're looking for. A Prince cover band isn't going to sound just like Prince.
