NYU isn't elite at all, especially not for undergrad... for an MBA I might give it a pass :comeon: there's a difference between having decent recruiting and actual pedigree

If you wanna be technical about it there aren't enough of these jobs even for kids at top schools... I know someone who's graduating from Wharton undergrad this year and he's pulling about a 3.3... the best summer internship he could pull was some non-prestigious trading gig

I'm sure Goldman recruits at UF too what are you talking about :skip:
You don't have to be anywhere near the valedictorian at UF to get a banking gig :usure: no one that smart is going to do banking anyway they usually become academics

You can think what you want but Goldman does on-campus interviews at many non-Michigan/UVA/etc. caliber public schools

The Ivy League kids may have a small advantage and more of their marginal candidates might slip into these positions but at the top level of candidates it's a very even playing field

He has to be a serious fukkup...

Okay breh, the recruiters I've met say otherwise. But I'll let you tell it. :stopitslime:

:manny: They probably see fewer realistic candidates as they go down the list so they're telling the truth in some sense

but :childplease: at this imaginary world where all i-banking analysts are from Harvard and 4 other schools

with a decent resume you can get all the interviews you want even at a Duke/Penn/Cornell type of place

So you're arguing with me, only to agree with me? How could name those schools in your argument :dead:

Not really
He just turned out to be an average student in college

If he was a special case like an athlete/minority student or had connections then a 3.3 is doable but he's just a nerdy Indian kid

I'm saying even kids with marginally elite school pedigree can get all the interviews they want... you could probably go down to even more borderline places like Georgetown and it would be the same :youngsabo:

so what's stopping a state school kid from landing some interviews and getting a summer internship offer :ehh:

If I don't get a job in the CS field making at least what Im making now (43k), I'm running up on my campus lawn with handguns drawn. I cant take another 2+ years at my current job. Hopefully by the time I grad the econ should be back at near full strength.

Yea, yea, yea...I hear you. I dont believe in that shyt tho. If you let where you go to school be an excuse for your failure, you would've failed regardless. I could see if you went to Hamburger State lol....but I got plenty of friends who're alum from Morgan, UMES, Del State. None of them starving.

Aint tryna out you ...but didnt you get an internship with Google, you should be laughin breh :comeon:

:whoa:
I'm not laughing at you all...I'm Class of 2009...the economy died during my junior / senior year.

I got my full-time offer from a bulge bracket investment bank in Summer 2008 as the world was coming to an end (Lehman, Merrill :wow:). Bunch of us thought banks were going to yank our offers. 1st semester of my senior year was scary as shyt

Luckily I kept my offer and got through the 2 years as Wall Street was reducing headcount.

We all know you caking though breh, you dont gotta rub it in. :wow: Still in PE?

Nah not true

Lots of random schools get i-banking recruiting
Baruch College is a mediocre public school and lots of firms pick up analysts there... NYU isn't considered prestigious by any credible person yet they're a strong feeder school
There are schools in Canada that get serious recruiting for positions in New York

Top Public Schools | Rankings | Top National Universities | US News
even in this list there's like 15-20 schools with enough recruiting for a good candidate to get a banking job and it excludes all private schools

Are you Canadian breh?

As for I-Banking theres only one school here (for the most part_ that places kids in I-Banking in the US. The reason is its alumni. Richard ivey school of business. I got a friend whose friend from Ivey was working at Barclays in LA during the summer. Banked like 35K or some shyt. :win: They got placements in Credit Suisse LA/NY, Goldman Sachs, UBS etc etc. Queens is good too but I dont think they got the USA exposure like that. Only thing is that schools' tuition costs 22K a year alone. Nevermind the rent and books and food etc.

I am considering transferring to Ivey...only thing is if i dont i'll graduate debt free man. :wow: Additionally Ivey expanded recently so the rumor has it that their recruiting numbers will suffer percentage wise and itll be that much more competitive. I'm torn :bryan: Cause I agree with champ, for the most part most great jobs only recruit from particular schools and then for the rest you better know someone because its everybody gunnin for one or two position. Even the Big 4 Accounting firms are like that somewhat.

If you got a career after college, you went to a good college, if you don't, no matter your loans, you went to the wrong school.
