I think ending a match with a "finisher" is overrated

Roll ups are a cheap way to protect the loser of the match. Everyone knows this

I’d even argue that in todays wrestling climate, it even hurts the winner of the match by not giving them a decisive victory

that shyt might have been cool in the 90’s / early 00’s but it’s different times man. We know too much these days. That shyt ain’t flying

I dont understand how a roll up, outta nowhere victory protects the loser, a win is a win, tf?

Ricky Steamboat beat Flair and Macho Man with a roll up and those matches are classics

You’re naming matches from decades ago when kayfabe existed. Today, that shyt doesn’t work

Jeff Hardy rolls Karrion Kross up, and it doesn’t protect him nor does it do anything for Jeff. It makes Jeff’s victory cheap chicken shyt’ish, and Kross looks like a fukkin doofus for getting rolled up by someone he should be walking all over. We’re not buying bullshyt finishes in 2021. Again, we know too much. We want competitive matches with real decisive results and squashes when they need to be..

Roll ups should be rarely used victories for underdogs..

Imagine Roman beating Leanar in the main event of a PPV with a surprise small cradle. fukk outta here

you know damn well any sane man wouldnt book a roll up victory with 2 powerhouse wrestlers, which is why i mentioned high impact moves being another way to end a match,

Brock Lesnar can do a Triple Powerbomb or better yet 10 German Suplexes and the opponent will still kick out, But one F5 its over, thats wack

This. Kayfabe wise, I could see 1984 Hulk Hogan or '98 Goldberg kicking out of ONE finisher during a ppv match. It doesn't sense that a 130 lb twink can kick out of multiple finishers and immediately go on offense.
:hhh:

I think it makes sense

Per a couple of these coli posters that are smaller than Alexa Bliss but always talk that BIG shyt claim they can whoop any niccas ass and won’t take an L:lolbron:

The psychology behind the finisher was that it was supposed to be your best move, one you executed better than all your others. You would bring that out when your opponent was at his worst whether via fatigue or injury. It was not supposed to be a guaranteed win at anytime which is how it was booked in the 90s and how many of us grew to view it, it was the timing of the move that secured the win

The real problem with kicking out of multiple finishers is that it exposes the performers in terms of kayfabe having bad in ring strategy. He shouldn’t be hitting his best move if his guy is not in position and he should know that in feeling out the match (once again talking kayfabe)

This is why I’m not mad at Triple H in how he protected the pedigree for the majority of his career, but on the flip side I’m not as mad at Ultimate Warriors kick out of it at WM12. He could have sold that a little better, but it wasnt supposed to put him down as the first move of the match.

I agree :ehh:

Before the 80's this was a lot more common and plays into more nuanced, realistic match psychology

Also semi-related: The amount of damage that it takes to beat an opponent these days has gotten way too high and I think wrestling needs a reset in this area

Early wcw some matches would just end out of nowhere without a finisher just a move that had its toll on the opponents body
Was cool somtimes
