I think ending a match with a "finisher" is overrated

My favorite kind of finishes are the ones you dont see coming, like a roll up pin, or a high impact move that you don't believe someone can kick out from, The problem with wrestling these days is I see too many high impact moves that should wipe out the opponent and a finisher is not needed and not enough roll up out of nowhere pins

dont get me wrong a finisher like the Stone Cold Stunner, Pedigree, etc or a submissiom is still dope but every match shouldn't be necessary

some of the best matches WWE had... had roll up finishes

Bret/Diesel
Bret/Owen
HBK/Jericho
Rey/Eddie

Roll ups are a cheap way to protect the loser of the match. Everyone knows this

I’d even argue that in todays wrestling climate, it even hurts the winner of the match by not giving them a decisive victory

that shyt might have been cool in the 90’s / early 00’s but it’s different times man. We know too much these days. That shyt ain’t flying

I agree :ehh:

Before the 80's this was a lot more common and plays into more nuanced, realistic match psychology

Also semi-related: The amount of damage that it takes to beat an opponent these days has gotten way too high and I think wrestling needs a reset in this area
This. Kayfabe wise, I could see 1984 Hulk Hogan or '98 Goldberg kicking out of ONE finisher during a ppv match. It doesn't sense that a 130 lb twink can kick out of multiple finishers and immediately go on offense.
:hhh:
