The dunk contest was DEAD before VC, literally non-existent for a couple years. They pressure and hype he had coming into that dunk contest was crazy and this nikka brought so much swag and didn't miss a fukkin dunk. Made everything look easy and DIDN'T MISS A fukkING DUNK. Thats my GOAT dunker :wow:

Jrich can't even dunk off one foot. You see when they made him do a ft line dunk? He had the worst one I've ever seen. Or the year he missed a dunk like 4 times. Kobe? Get the fukk outta here, his dunk contest was weak. Can't palm the ball like Vince or Jordan could.

Always has to be people on the coli trying to be different. Vince could dunk with power, finesse, off one or two feet, jumped as high as anyone and could easily palm the ball. Did all his dunks on one try, except making tmac make another bounce pass cause he didn't pass it right.

mind yall, this was just 2 years after vince carter.

@god shamgod was right about everything except that "vince is wack" comment.

Thread...., J-Rich was clearly a two footed jumper(same as Nique) which always hurt him compared to VC, plus Carter's dunks just look so much cleaner compared to other dunkers that attempt the same dunks.

i think vince is arguably the goat myself. the only thing stopping me from saying that hes the goat is that he hasnt competed in enough competitions and didnt go head up with j.rich, who is right up there with him.

as far as anticipation, stuff like that is mostly the result of hype. if the media threw a hype machine around j.rich's dunks, then the masses(casuals) would be on his top just as much.

yep let a player like kobe do that dunk back then

HOLD THE PHONE. so comparing j.rich to vince is an example of trying to be different now? are you serious with this?

the bolded is not saying much. throw vince in that "spin the wheel" contest and lets see what happens when hes forced to do something that exposes a weakness. hell, where was he? he was nowhere to be found. didnt even comeback to defend his crown.

j.rich's dunks were more difficult than vince's. if vince did his dunks, he prolly wouldve missed a few as well, assuming that he could even pull those dunks off.

Vince's dunks are held in such high-esteem because the dunk contest was off for 2 years (one b/c dunk contest canceled, one from the lockout), he dunked against a good field, he was catching bodies in games (so people wanted to see him in the contest like Lebron nowadays), and he only participated once.

But if you think of the dunks he actually did:

Dunk 1 - Reverse 360
Dunk 2 - Windmill from the Baseline
Dunk 3 - T-Mac bounced, thru the legs Eastbay Dunk
Dunk 4 - Arm in the Net Dunk
Dunk 5 - 2 Hander from a step in the free throw line.

Dunk 3 and 4 were technically impressive, but the other 3 were purely style over actual substance.

J-Rich's dunks aren't held in high esteem because he had wack draft classes he was dunking against, no one watched Warriors games back then, and he participated 3 times in a row.

J-Rich could definitely give him a run with technically impressive dunks.

His '03 dunk was a bounced, reversed thru the legs EastBay, to a reverse off-hand dunk.
His '04 first round dunk was an off the glass, thru the legs eastbay

good points. i aint even think about how vince benefited from the contest being gone. looking back, it played a part in me being obsessed with that 2000 contest for years.
