If you don’t do the art yourself, the critique doesn’t matter to me

That show used to have meNow is the perfect time to revive The Critic. Jay Sherman gotta shyt on this crap out.
Interesting so at that time in my life I used to read the reviews in the Rocky Mountain News (rip) every Friday. Dude would give out grades and review the major movies dropping and I remember New Jack getting a very good review. I was legit surprised.Never cared for what critics said about shyt after age 13. I remember reading a review of New Jack City in my local paper and it was basically calling it the worst film ever made, it was called "a drug fueled fairytale of urban life " if I remember correctly. Same thing with "Boyz in the Hood" and most black movies. Then I'd see the actual movie and love it. And when I was 13 New Jack City was the best movie I'd ever seen up until that point. So since then it's always been fukk a critic
Nah. Film room says you need to consult everyone and their moms, a tomato meter, meta critic, your local paper, Twitter, and then finally yourself. And if you disagree with them, they can’t be trusted. It’s the dumbest shytOnly critic opinion worth a damn is Your OWN

This is the dumbest shyt I’ve seen here today. Critics have “opinions” and those opinions are just like yours. Sometimes they’re more informed because they come from people who study film but nothing has changed since the 90s. Or 80s. Or whenever. Movie criticism is an art not a science and the problem here is so many cats believe it’s the latter.
There are more than a handful of movies that are held up as classics now that were shytted on when they first dropped. The shining? shytted on. The thing? shytted on. It’s not about “trusting” a critic or not trusting a critic; that’s the most sheepish thought process you can have. If you find someone who’s taste aligns with yours then read that person and either let them be the final word or let yourself be the final word.
If you need a critic to tell you what’s worth seeing or not worth seeing then why are you in a place called the film room?
